6th March 2018

The weather has thankfully thawed and not a minute too soon.

Predictions in and glad-rags on, the biggest names in the movie business gathered together on Sunday night to celebrate the hottest date in the awards season calendar: The 90th Academy Awards – The Oscars!

Leading on from the BAFTAs and the Golden Globes, the front runners including Three Billboards, The Shape of Water, The Darkest Hour and I, Tonya each with high hopes of bagging the most wanted man in Hollywood – Oscar.

The past week of snow and ice cold winds have taken the toll, leaving me with a less than fabulous sinus cold… but I was not about to let that stop me from enjoying the awards from the comfort of my sofa. Lemsip in hand, I cheered on my favourite nominees, making note of movies I still need to see in the cinema (I mean that clip of Saoirse Ronan throwing herself out of a moving car in Ladybird has got to warrant a watch right?).

Besides the glitz, glamour and empowerment speeches, audiences were wowed with live performances and clips from bygone years.  To celebrate 90-years of great movies and the Academy Awards, each category showed a reel by reel of iconic performances and past winners. This left me with a craving for a mega movie marathon with Gone With The Wind, Saving Private Ryan and Silence of the Lambs at the top of my greats list… that's the next few weekends mapped out and in the words of Rhett Butler “Quite frankly my dear, I don’t give damn”.

Whilst in-between awards, audiences were treated to live musical performances from Mary J Blige (Mighty River – Mudbound), the cast of animated feature Coco (Remember Me) and This is Me by the cast of The Greatest Showman.  The glittering stage performances were reflected in the attire on the red carpet. Setting the tone for the night ahead, stars moved away from the fifty shades of black presented by the Times Up dress code and took to the red carpet in awash of colour and sequins.

Chadwick Boseman:

Another best-dressed winner representing Black Panther. Turning up the heat in a long Givenchy coat with silver embroidery, is this the actual King T’challa of Wakanda? We think so!

Timothee Chalamet:

Effortless cool in all white.

Danai Glurira:

Described by some as stepping out with alienesque style, we think she definitely looked out of this world in satin blush Gabriela Hearst.
