The Itinerary
Each morning, you will be treated to a breathtaking hot air balloon ride over the iconic Serengeti landscape. Soaring at an altitude of 2,000 feet, you will have panoramic views of the vast plains, teeming with wildlife. This exhilarating experience allows for incredible photo opportunities and a different perspective of Serengeti’s beauty.
After the balloon ride, you travel to a new wilderness location where you can explore on intrepid walking safaris and traditional wildlife drives. Accompanied by experienced and knowledgeable guides, you’ll have the chance to discover hidden corners of the Serengeti and encounter its diverse wildlife up close.
One of the highlights of this safari is the opportunity to participate in the conservation efforts of the Frankfurt Zoological Society’s anti-poaching efforts. You’ll have a hands-on experience with the team, working to protect wildlife from poachers and other threats.
Beginning the safari in the Gol Kopjes area, known for its cheetah population, presents a unique chance to observe these magnificent big cats in their natural habitat. This trip is a fantastic opportunity to enjoy the simplicity and serenity of the traditional safari experience, letting you reconnect with nature and create lasting memories in the heart of the Serengeti.
Below is a sample itinerary.
Day 1:
Arrive at your accommodation in Arusha and enjoy an afternoon activity of your choice of either a Meru Waterfall walk or a mountain biking excursion.
Day 2:
On Day 2, you'll fly to the Seronera airstrip in the Serengeti, where you will transfer to your private Wayo Africa Safari Fly Camp. Here you will start to enjoy your first wildlife sightings either during an afternoon walking safari or 4×4 wildlife drive.
Day 3:
Early morning departure for your first leg of your Trans- Serengeti ballooning adventure from Gol Kopjes. You will take off just as the sun is rising and fly for around 1-1.5 hours westward landing in time for breakfast. From here you will continue with your day either in a walking safari or in a vehicle.
Day 4:
Continuing your adventure, you will fly further in your hot air balloon departing from Central Serengeti heading west. Land for breakfast and experience either a driving or walking safari.
Day 5:
Fly further west departing in the balloon from Mareo and landing in Kirawira. Enjoy an afternoon of wildlife driving and or walking safari.
Day 6:
A final balloon flight from Kirawira to the shores of Lake Victoria where you will do your final landing in a community which will not have even seen a balloon before. You'll then transfer to the airstrip for a flight back to Arusha.
Day 7:
Transfer to the airport and return travel home.
The Accommodation
The accommodation is in cocoon star-tents, which allow you to sleep under the open sky while still providing protection from the elements with a fly sheet overhead. These tents offer a sense of connection with the natural surroundings, so you can fall asleep with the night sky above you.
The camp has “bush bathrooms” in nearby canvas enclosures, with refreshing bucket showers and safari loos. Dining takes place around a campfire every night, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere where you can share stories and experiences with fellow travellers.
