Today, January 2023, at 13.30 GMT, Zazie Beetz and Jack Quaid announced the nominations for the 2024 Oscars in 23 categories live from the Samuel Goldwyn Theatre, Los Angeles. This is the Academy Awards 96th year, acknowledging another stellar year in cinema.

The big hitters look to be Oppenheimer (with 13 nominations), Poor Things (with 11 nominations, Killers of the Flower Moon (with 10 nominations) and Barbie (with 8 nominations). Maestro is also a hotly contested frontrunner with a total of 7 nominations, including Bradley Cooper up for Leading Actor.

The Highlights

The battle of 'Barbenheimer' is far from over, with both films up for ‘Best motion picture of the year’. When it came to homegrown talent, the nominations were also favourable to British leading ladies: Emily Blunt and Carey Mulligan are in the running for their respective roles in Oppenheimer and Maestro. Surprisingly, both All Of Us Strangers and Saltburn received no nominations, despite their strong performance at the Bafta nominations last week.
