The 'Kate Effect' has led to fashion houses becoming globally recognised brands after the Duchess of Cambridge is seen wearing their pieces, and it seems like she isn't going to be the only royal bride to majorly influence the fashion of this decade, and no doubt many more decades to come. In the coming months and years be prepared to be hit by websites running slowly as millions try to get their hands on a select number of pieces.

At the official announcement of her engagement to Prince Harry outside the Kensington Palace yesterday, American actress Meghan Markle wore a white belted coat from Line the Label. It's a Canadian brand and a nod to her previous hometown Toronto. Shortly after, the clothing brand’s website crashed from all the fashionistas trying to get their hands on the sought-after item. But that particular coat isn't sold online, however, and the price isn’t known although a similar one is on the market for £450. This is just the start of the 'Kate effect.'

Counting fellow American actresses Sarah Jessica Parker and Kate Bosworth within its client base, the Canadian clothing line was founded in 2000 by designers and best friends John Muscat and Jennifer Wells. The brand is most known for its luxury knitwear and lavish textiles. Markle wore the same brand at the Invictus Games earlier this year, the first time she made a public appearance together with Harry.

P.A.R.O.S.H (created by Italian designer Paolo Rossello), and was combined with nude heels by Aquazzura. In the past, brands including L.K Bennett, Hobbs, Alexander McQueen, Jenny Packham, Reiss, Zara and J Brand have all received a boost from Kate Middleton wearing something from their collections in public. It looks like Meghan Markle has just launched her own ‘Kate effect,’ and it will be interesting to see how her style evolution will unfold in the future. And, of course, what she will wear on her big day...
