The Sybarite swung by the Notting Hill salon to try out the revolutionary treatment that transforms hair using advanced nano-technology. Read Phoebe Tatham’s honest verdict below.

Hairstylist Gustav Fouche is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to whipping up showstopping celebrity looks, so when I was invited to experience the ultra-luxurious ‘Glow Dry’ treatment at his Notting Hill salon, I got myself booked in without hesitation.

The Salon Interiors

Tucked away in a corner of Notting Hill, Gustav’s original outpost (there’s a second salon in Surrey), is beautifully zen with ambient lighting, wooden parquet flooring, and splashes of chocolate brown and teal. There’s also a subterranean room reserved for hair washing and an array of treatments, complete with a swish marble table, hanging plants and porthole-like mirrors. Swoon!

The space feels warm and welcoming, providing the perfect backdrop for a luxurious pamper session. Unlike many city salons, there’s also ample space to make yourself feel at home. Coats and bags are quickly taken care of so that you don’t have to continuously lug your personal belongings from wash basin to chair, and a menu of herbal teas invites you to unwind.

What is a ‘Glow Dry’ Treatment?

The luxurious Glow Dry treatment is a bespoke experience that involves a scalp and hair consultation, Gustav’s signature Hair & Scalp Recovery Elixir, and an exclusive micromist treatment that’s only found in a handful of salons worldwide. The machine, which gently blasts out a mixture of warm and cold air, is designed to deeply hydrate and nourish the hair for long-lasting results up to eight weeks. The warm air essentially opens up the hair cuticles, allowing the treatment to penetrate the hair shaft, whilst the cool air effectively locks in the treatment and boosts overall shine.

The Process

Colour whizz Debbie kicked off my treatment with a brief consultation to get a better sense of my hair’s needs. She asked a series of questions about my natural hair texture, how I typically style it, and my current routine. The glorious thing about the Glow Dry treatment is that it can be tailored to each individual, depending on their primary hair concerns. From colour protection to protein reinforcement, it’s completely customisable for a bespoke feel.

Realising that my dry and damaged mane was in need of some serious TLC, Debbie picked out a number of products to enhance hydration, volume and shine. Enter the ‘Energising’ shampoo from the GF Fabulosity range (75% protein and 25% moisture), designed to provide volume without weighing it down, and the Number 5 conditioner (100% moisture), which works to regenerate heat-damaged hair.

Debbie washed my hair twice with shampoo before applying the treatment from root to tip. I was then whizzed across to the sci-fi-like micromist machine which cocoons the hair in an ultra-fine vapour. Herbal tea in hand, I waited patiently for six minutes as the hot air got to work on my frazzled locks. After a quick beep, the machine concluded with two minutes of cool air to seal in the nutrient-rich ingredients.

With my hair now feeling wonderfully slick, Debbie subsequently blowdried my hair to perfection, adding bouncy, soft waves to the ends for a touch of volume. Listening to Debbie’s expert hair tips as she deftly twirled my locks into smooth sections made the whole experience all the more enjoyable. It turns out that my coveted hair oil is in fact jam-packed with silicones...

Results and Final Verdict

Post-treatment, my hair felt instantly softer, healthier and beautifully shiny. My frizzy flyaways were a thing of the past, and I noticed that my natural red hue somehow felt glossier and more vivid. Even after a couple of washes and at-home blow-drys, my hair still felt intensely hydrated, smooth, and easier to style. It's safe to say that the Glow Dry treatment is worth every penny.
