The restaurant is beautiful and welcoming and we were given a traditional Thia greeting on arrival. Our table was by the floor to ceiling window, overlooking London city life. The teak-panelled interior is inspired by its sister restaurant in Bangkok, and gives it a real traditional Thai feel - this really is a hidden gem in the heart of London!
The traditional all-female, all-Thai kitchen is led by Head Chef Sanguan Parr, who has been working at the restaurant for the past 20 years. Nipa Thai is renowned for serving the most delicious traditional Thai cuisine in London.
We opted for the ‘Chandra’ set menu for 2 with paired Thai wines, and at £69.00 per person, I thought it was very good value. The menu started with Ruam Mitr, a selection of Thai starters to share, my favourite being the satay chicken and peanut sauce; the presentation was beautiful and it tasted divine!
Next was the Tom Yum Koong, a spicy lemongrass, chilli and lime broth with prawns, mushrooms and coriander, which was probably my favourite dish. It just reminded me of being in Thailand and experiencing the amazing flavours of their traditional foods. This was followed by a spicy green coconut curry, stir-fried fresh scallops with asparagus, fried rice noodles with bean sprouts, spring onions, eggs and prawns and Thai Jasmine rice. Dessert was a selection of mixed fresh fruits or coconut ice cream presented in a coconut shell.
We finished our evening with some jasmine tea before heading back to our suite. For those who want to experience the true taste of Thailand then make sure you book a table at Nipa Thai - you will not regret it!
