The Stracciatella with Spanish figs and aged balsamic proved that a vegetarian dish can be a standout. Equal parts creamy and punchy, it was served atop a slice of crispy bread, making for a delicious mouthful. For the main course, the sea bass (served whole) with bilbaína sauce and crispy leek was my top choice. The special sauce contained garlic and dried chilli infused oil with cider vinegar and complimented the fish perfectly. It fell away from the bones and was a real joy to devour. In my opinion, the night isn’t over until you’ve tried the dulce de leche fondant which has a rich, melt-in-the-middle centre and is devilishly moreish.

As an Argentinian restaurant it would have been almost sacrilege to pass up on a steak dish. My standout main was the fillet steak, cooked to perfection, ultra-juicy and tender. It was perfectly complemented by an equally herbaceous and spicy chimichurri sauce. Make sure you save room for a decadent dessert: the Basque cheesecake served with slow-roasted strawberries is indulgent and creamy, whilst still managing to be super light — divine. Head to Alma (the downstairs bar) for a night cap. The Pina Nueva is a spicy twist on a classic Pina Colada, making it an unexpected winter warmer. Coconut cream and pineapple is offset with a spicy hit of chipotle and chilli syrup, so nice I had to have two!

Sucre is a restaurant that makes choosing your meal incredibly difficult, with every dish incredibly inviting. The best way to start the meal is with the tuna tartare with its citrusy freshness and the indulgent flavours of the black garlic, it won the top spot for the appetisers for me. Moving to the main event, our charming waiter explained their guests’ favourite dish, the monkfish. Sucre’s take on monkfish was like nothing I’d tried before, pairing rich bacon and earthy mushrooms with the white fish, it was deliciously hearty without being overly heavy. Finished off with the parsnip purée too, the dish had a festive touch! Downstairs for a digestif, one of Alma’s impressive cocktails stood out to me. The Luz de Lima is all too easy to drink with smooth Patron Resposado Tequila combined with tart rhubarb flavours and refined with vanilla syrup, this drink is dangerously refreshing.

Personally, it’s one of my favourite Argentinian restaurants in London - a standout starter is the tiger prawns with lemon kosho butter—a perfect balance of zest and indulgence. For the main course, the beef short rib steals the show. Tender and slow-cooked to perfection, it melts in your mouth, beautifully complemented by creamy potato purée and a rich red wine sauce. No visit to Sucre is complete without indulging in their signature dessert, the dulce de leche fondant with the creaminess of mascarpone and the crunch of hazelnuts. It is the perfect harmony of textures and flavours. Whether you're a seasoned foodie or simply seeking a cosy, memorable meal, Sucre is a dining experience you’ll savour long after the last bite.
