With a steady increase in consumption over the last 10 years, tequila has moved into the luxury sphere, just as Belvedere created a similar space for vodka. Tequila is no longer the party drink/ shot at a club, but a liquor that is sipped and enjoyed by connoisseurs, and for which people pay quite a lot of money.
After much research, and an interesting process of research at that, The Sybarite team too has been converted to tequila lovers. While we have no issues in continuing our tequila tasting sessions, we are delighted to present you our (first) selection of favourite tequilas, both of which have become a staple on Fridays in our office.
We started our tequila tasting with an easy, popular-by-celebrity-creation, tequila, Casamigos. This small-batch, ultra-premium tequila is the perfect introduction to learning to drink a smooth tequila. This tequila does not need salt or lime and can be enjoyed any way you wish. Since launching in 2013, George Clooney and Rande Gerber’s Casamigos has gone from strength to strength – so much so that in 2016 they formed their own company to handle the import, marketing and selling.
The Casamigos Tequila collection consists of a Blanco, Reposado, Anejo and Mezcal. Although we are normally partial to Añejo, we were advised on the Reposado, as it is known as the tequila with one of the most pure agave flavours. We were not disappointed. The Reposado has a creamy flavour and an almost smoky consistency, making it interesting to sip and not too heavy on the taste. Clooney and Gerber love tequila, love to enjoy tequila with friends, so they made a tequila to enjoy with friends. And you know what George, Rande and Mike – we are entirely sold.
