The whole point of supper-clubs is sharing a table with strangers whilst sharing good, wholesome food in the confines of the cook’s home. Although being in a room full of strangers may sound scary, it can actually turn out to be an unforgettable experience where you concentrate on the food whilst, perhaps, getting to know someone new. If you are not one for sharing a table with strangers, you can certainly opt to host a supper club with just your friends, bearing in mind the minimum number of friends you can invite.
One of the most versatile food enthusiasts out there is Londoner, Uyen Luu. A love and passion for cooking, she uses ingredients and home-cooked methods that her mother used during her youth. Today, she shares home-cooked goodness in the form of supper-clubs that she hosts in her own abode in the East End of London. Whether you would like to go with a friend or by yourself, or even host your own private dining experience, Uyen Luu can accommodate. All you need to do is bring your own beverages while Uyen and her helpful staff takes care of the rest.
What you can expect at her supper-club is home defining local cuisine with a touch of heart and soul found in each mouthful of a dish, all the while enjoying good company in a homely atmosphere. Just when you think the menu has come to an end, out comes another appetizing explosion of flavors. Each dish is a surprise in itself – using fresh herbs from her little garden and each dish prepared on the morning till you arrive, you can be sure to experience a spectacular feast.
It is no wonder that the likes of Jamie Oliver and Ellie Goulding have given the experience a go, only to mention – in detail - how delicious the dishes were.
If you are curious about attending an Uyen Luu Supper Club experience, some things to note are the £35 suggested donation fee which helps to cover ingredients, plus it wouldn’t hurt to leave a little extra for her helpers. Some dishes she may serve are Saigon fresh rolls with pork belly, prawns, perilla, cockscombe, mint & coriander, Chicken salad with banana blossom and hot mint, vegetable curry pies, and, you get the idea.
When Uyen Luu is not cooking up a storm, she can be found photographing, filmmaking, blogging and styling. Her first cookbook “My Vietnamese Kitchen” is also available for purchase.
So, what are you waiting for? Time to take your taste buds for a ride.
