For those planning more than just a weekend in Shanghai, IFC Residence offers something many luxury hotels cannot - a genuine sense of home. Combining spacious apartment-style living with five-star hotel service, it has become our top recommendation for families, business travellers and anyone wanting to experience Shanghai comfortably without compromising on luxury.

Each apartment has been carefully designed to feel less like temporary accommodation and more like a beautifully appointed home. Fully equipped kitchens complete with a dishwasher and laundry facilities allow guests to settle into daily life with ease, while generous living spaces, elegant bedrooms, modern finishes and attentive concierge service provide all the luxuries one would expect from a five-star hotel. It is this seamless blend of independence and hospitality that makes IFC Residence particularly special.

A Home Away from Home

Over the course of five nights, we had the opportunity to experience the property as it was intended—not simply as a place to sleep, but as a place to live. It quickly became apparent why so many guests choose IFC Residence for both short and long-term stays. There is something wonderfully reassuring about returning after a busy day exploring Shanghai to a space that feels entirely your own, whether that's preparing a simple meal in the kitchen, ordering takeaway to enjoy in the dining room overlooking the city, or simply unwinding on the sofa with the glittering Pudong skyline stretching beyond the windows.

For our family of four, the Two-Bedroom Residence proved to be the ideal configuration and one we would highly recommend. Stepping inside, we were so pleased with the generous amount of space that the apartment provided us. The open-plan living and dining area for example, is thoughtfully designed, complemented by a separate study and a fully equipped kitchen that allows guests to entertain, work or simply enjoy the comforts of home. The interiors are understated yet elegant, with premium materials and furnishings. Every detail feels intentional, from adjustable lighting and climate controls to blackout curtains that ensure a restful night's sleep after a full day in the city.

The apartment features a spacious twin bedroom, ideal for children or additional guests, complete with its own television, alongside a beautifully appointed king master suite with an ensuite bathroom. Both rooms offered comfortable mattresses that rivalled those of many luxury hotels, while the expansive city views only enhanced the feeling of residing in a private Shanghai apartment rather than temporary accommodation.

Practicality has also been carefully considered. A second bathroom means there is never a queue in the morning, while conveniently positioned power sockets and USB charging points beside each bed remove the need to search for adapters or extension leads. These small touches make a rather big difference over a longer stay and demonstrate just how thoughtfully IFC Residence has been designed for modern travellers.

Service

Location is another of the property's greatest strengths. Sitting directly above IFC Mall and connected to the metro, guests enjoy immediate access to some of Shanghai's finest shopping, dining and transport links. Taxis are readily available just outside the residence, making travel across the city convenient whether heading to The Bund, Disneyland or one of Shanghai's many business districts.

Fluent in both English and Mandarin, concierges were always on hand to assist with recommendations, directions, deliveries or translations. One of the understated luxuries of staying at IFC Residence is knowing that everyday logistics are quietly taken care of, allowing guests to focus entirely on enjoying their time in the city.

The facilities further reinforce the property's appeal. Guests have access to an indoor swimming pool and well-equipped gym, making it easy to maintain daily routines without leaving the building. For families, the swimming pool offers a welcome way for children to unwind after a day of sightseeing, while adults can equally appreciate the opportunity to relax or fit in an early morning workout.

Each morning begins with an extensive buffet breakfast served in the lobby. We were particularly impressed by both the quality and variety on offer, with an excellent selection of Western and Chinese dishes alongside freshly baked pastries, breads and seasonal fruit. Whether visiting from overseas or travelling domestically, guests are exceptionally well catered for.

One feature we particularly appreciated during our stay was the seamless daily housekeeping. Returning each evening to an impeccably made apartment after spending the day exploring Shanghai felt like an understated luxury in itself. Meals ordered through local delivery apps arrived effortlessly, often delivered directly to our door by the residence's robot butler, while evenings were spent enjoying dinner together against the backdrop of Shanghai's illuminated skyline. It is these everyday moments that transform a serviced apartment into something that genuinely feels like home.

Final Verdict

For first-time visitors to Shanghai, IFC Residence offers something many traditional hotels cannot: a genuine sense of belonging. Rather than feeling like a transient guest, you feel immersed in the rhythm of the city while still enjoying the comfort, privacy and service of a luxury residence. Families have the space to settle in, business travellers can move seamlessly between work and leisure, and everyone benefits from the flexibility that apartment living naturally provides. Even departure is refreshingly effortless, with an express check-out allowing guests to simply leave their keys with the concierge before heading straight to the airport.

Luxury today is no longer defined solely by opulence, but by the freedom to travel exactly as you live at home -comfortably, effortlessly and without compromise. IFC Residence captures that philosophy beautifully. It offers the space to slow down, the convenience to settle in and the service to ensure every detail is quietly taken care of. Whether your stay in Shanghai is for a few nights or several months, it is a residence that allows the city to feel less like a destination and more like somewhere you genuinely belong.
