The St. Regis Bali is not just another five-star property in Nusa Dua, it is a sanctuary where Balinese artistry, signature St. Regis rituals, and intuitive butler service converge to create a stay unlike any other.
From the moment we stepped into the grand lobby — a space envisioned by acclaimed designer Bill Bensley — The St. Regis Bali cast its spell. Towering ceilings, intricate Balinese carvings, and warm, attentive greetings set the tone for what would become an unforgettable stay. Before we had even checked in, light refreshments were served, and our dedicated butler introduced us to the property that would become our home for the days ahead.
The Pool Villa Suite: A Private Haven
Our accommodation, the Pool Villa Suite, was nothing short of extraordinary. One of only five such villas on the property, it felt like a world unto itself. Designed with ornate Balinese accents woven seamlessly into a luxurious setting, the villa offered two bedrooms — one with a regal king-sized bed, the other with twin beds — making it a perfect retreat for families or multi-generational travellers.
The villa’s expansive living area, complete with a kitchenette and dining space, opened directly onto a private terrace and the resort’s saltwater swimming pool. Perhaps the greatest indulgence, however, was the villa’s direct private entrance to the pool itself. There was something almost dreamlike about sliding open the balcony doors in the early morning and stepping straight into the water — often in complete solitude, with only the sound of birdsong as company.
On arrival, the attention to detail was evident in thoughtful, personalised touches: hand-painted rattan handbags monogrammed with our initials, sun hats, children’s t-shirts, and signature St. Regis keepsakes for our little ones. A welcome spread of sweet and savoury delights, fresh juices, and a bottle of champagne awaited us — a preview of the generosity and refinement that would define the rest of our stay.
The Pools and The Beach: A World of Water
Exploring the resort felt like meandering through a lush, tropical labyrinth, with manicured gardens and pools revealing themselves at every turn. Beyond the saltwater pool, there were children’s pools, Jacuzzis, and even the Aqua-Vitale heated pool at the Iridium Spa. Yet it was the beachside pool that proved the jewel in the crown, offering direct access to the Indian Ocean — a rarity in the Nusa Dua area. Guests could choose between water sports such as kayaking and windsurfing or the simple luxury of lounging by the water’s edge with a cocktail in hand.
Dining: A Culinary Journey
Dining at The St. Regis Bali was a celebration in itself. Each morning began at Boneka, where we eagerly awaited their signature lobster omelette — a dish served in its own cast-iron pan, swimming in a delicate broth, and one we found ourselves craving daily. By evening, The St. Regis Bar came alive with the brand’s famed Champagne Sabering Ritual, a global tradition that here in Bali felt particularly enchanting.
For those seeking a more elevated dining experience, Kayaputi offered fine Pan-Asian cuisine against a backdrop of ocean views — a refined setting perfect for evenings of unhurried indulgence.
The Spa and Rituals of Relaxation
Wellness at The St. Regis Bali is no afterthought. At the Iridium Spa, traditional Balinese therapies are reimagined as truly restorative experiences. My Balinese massage was nothing short of transcendent, followed by time spent floating in the therapeutic Aqua-Vitale pool — an immersion that left me deeply recharged.
Equally rejuvenating was my daily ritual of sunrise yoga. Held each morning at 7 a.m., these sessions became a treasured rhythm of my stay, balancing indulgence with grounding calm.
Little Luxuries for the Entire Family
Just when we thought the resort could not surprise us further, we returned one afternoon to discover a children’s tent and a lavish afternoon tea spread waiting in our villa. Somehow, the team had orchestrated this entire set-up unseen. Our children were delighted, alternating between play and treats, while we luxuriated in rare, uninterrupted moments by the pool. It was a gesture that encapsulated the spirit of The St. Regis: thoughtful, discreet, and always one step ahead of expectation.
A Destination Worth Returning To
What makes The St. Regis Bali truly remarkable is not just its physical beauty — though that alone is captivating — but its unwavering commitment to crafting moments that feel both personal and profound. Every detail, every gesture, every ritual works in harmony to create more than just a holiday: it becomes a story worth retelling.
For families, couples, or travellers in pursuit of luxury that resonates with heart as much as with aesthetics, The St. Regis Bali Nusa Dua stands as an exquisite choice. It is not simply a place to stay, but a destination where every stay is tailored into memory.
What began as a modest bungalow in 1887 has since transformed into one of Singapore’s most iconic heritage hotels, named in honour of Sir Stamford Raffles, the founder of modern Singapore. Declared a national monument in 1987, it remains the only hotel in the country to hold such recognition.
