At The Ritz-Carlton Shanghai Pudong, luxury reveals itself in the most personal of ways - quietly, intuitively, and without ever needing to be asked for. Every detail feels considered, every gesture intentional, turning a stay into something deeply individual. It’s not just about being well looked after, but about feeling unmistakably known.
There are hotels that impress, and then there are those that stay with you long after you’ve left. The Ritz-Carlton Shanghai Pudong belongs firmly to the latter.
Set within the soaring skyline of Pudong, this is a hotel that immediately shifts your perspective, both literally and emotionally. Above the energy of Shanghai, with sweeping views across The Bund and the iconic Oriental Pearl Tower, it offers a rare sense of calm in the midst of one of the world’s most dynamic cities.
Yet what defines the experience here goes far beyond its setting. It’s the quiet, intuitive understanding of its guests - the way every detail feels considered, every moment gently curated. From the suite you wake up in to the smallest, most personal gestures, the hotel creates something that feels less like a stay, and more like a story you become part of.
Location & Setting
There is something quietly powerful about arriving in Pudong. The energy feels sharper, more vertical - glass, steel, and light rising in every direction. Set within the heart of Lujiazui, The Ritz-Carlton Shanghai Pudong doesn’t just sit within the skyline, it becomes part of it.
From the moment we arrived, there was a distinct sense of separation from the buzz below. Looking out across The Bund and the ever-iconic Oriental Pearl Tower, the city felt both entirely present and somehow softened by the distance. It strikes that rare balance of being in the centre of everything, yet feeling completely removed from it at the same time.
Decadent Suites
Over three nights, we stayed in a One Bedroom Suite directly facing the Oriental Pearl Tower which is arguably one of the most captivating sights in the city. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame a panoramic skyline so mesmerising it has a way of slowing down time.
The suite is generously proportioned, flowing seamlessly from a spacious living and study area into a serene king bedroom. A highlight is the pair of armchairs set beside the windows that provide an intimate, almost cinematic setting akin to a private sky lounge.
The cocooning bedroom continues this sense of quiet luxury, with the dramatic skyline serving as its backdrop. In the ensuite bathroom, soft pink marble, double vanities, a deep soaking tub, and a separate shower create a space designed entirely for restoration.
Personalised Service
What truly defines a stay at The Ritz Carlton Shanghai Pudong is the extraordinary level of personalisation.
Ahead of arrival, the team curated a series of deeply thoughtful touches that transformed the experience into something truly memorable. Awaiting us in the suite was a beautifully crafted cake printed with our family portrait alongside a stunning bouquet of flowers.
For our little one, a personalised children’s tent filled with soft toys and treats created an immediate sense of warmth and belonging. Even the smallest details were elevated: a custom keycard featuring our family portrait, and a hand-drawn anime-style welcome card.
These gestures went far beyond luxury. They felt personal, intuitive, and genuinely heartfelt. It’s this level of attentiveness that sets the hotel apart, ensuring every guest feels seen, valued, and cared for.
These are the things that don’t announce themselves loudly, but quietly shape how you feel throughout your stay. And that’s what stayed with me most: the sense that nothing was generic. Everything felt considered, and more importantly, sincere.
Refined Dining
Culinary offerings at The Ritz-Carlton Shanghai Pudong are both diverse and exceptional, with standout experiences that rival the city’s best.
At Jin Xuan Chinese Restaurant, refined Cantonese cuisine is executed with precision and depth. Signature dishes such as the cereal crab - rich, textural, and deeply flavourful - alongside perfectly crisp roast duck and a delicately balanced mushroom broth, showcase a mastery that has earned both Michelin and Black Pearl recognition.
For breakfast, Club Access guests can choose between Scena Di Angelo, the hotel’s Italian-influenced all-day dining venue, or the more intimate Club Lounge. While the Lounge offers a more curated selection, its privacy and panoramic views made it our preferred choice for an elevated yet unhurried start to the day.
There’s something about starting the day in near stillness, while the city slowly stirs around you, that shifts your mindset. It feels intentional - like embracing a moment of calm before stepping back into the chaos.
Wellbeing
The hotel's wellness space resembles a true sanctuary in the sky. Amongst the extensive facilities are ten treatment rooms, a 24-hour fitness studio, a steam room, a dry sauna, and a heated indoor pool - all designed to soothe both body and mind.
The spa experience is particularly noteworthy. Therapists demonstrate a deep understanding of the body, delivering treatments that feel both intentional and transformative. The roster includes a 90-minute 360-degree wellness experience which begins with sound bowl vibration therapy before focusing on areas of tension.
The result is deeply meditative: a complete release of physical stress, a quieting of the mind, and a rare sense of stillness. By the end, my breathing felt deeper and my thoughts felt clearer. The joy of these treatments is that they truly allow your mind to switch off. You stop thinking about your next move, where you need to be, and all the things you're yet to cross off your to-do list.
