Despite the fact that the lockdown has turned many of us into home-cooks overnight, it isn’t always easy to have to plan, shop for, and prepare three meals a day whilst staying healthy.

Balance Box is a meal delivery service that specialises in nutritionally designed, expertly crafted dishes that fit any diet and preference. With menu plans to choose from—classic, vegetarian, pescatarian, and free-from—you can sit back and relax knowing that each box contains enough for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and two snacks per day, so not only will you stay healthy, but you will not have to worry about staying full either.

Balance Box was created by Jennifer Irvine, who is also the founder of The Pure Package and Chair of The Wellness Awards. As a mother of four, Irvine knew that keeping the balance between looking good and staying healthy was quite a feat. After pulling together a team of chefs and nutritionists, she created Balance Box to provide a stress-free option for those who want to stay in shape but don’t have the time. 

I opted for the four-day subscription, and since I have been trying to limit my red meat consumption, I chose the pescatarian menu. 

My meals included the following:

Mmmm Monday

Breakfast: Roasted pear bircher

Lunch: Smoked mackerel Thai salad

Dinner: Tomato, basil, and olive pasta

Tasty Tuesday

Breakfast: Peanut butter, banana and organic rye bread

Lunch: Lebanese falafel and quinoa salad

Dinner: Roasted cod with courgette and rocket pesto

Wicked Wednesday

Breakfast: Roasted plum muesli

Lunch: Japanese vegetable salad 

Dinner: Noodle laksa

Tempting Thursday

Breakfast: Figs and cashew nut butter with organic rye bread

Lunch: Tomato and basil soup served with oatcakes

Dinner: Wild mushroom stroganoff

Snacks: fruit, nuts, seeds, and energy bars

Everything came clearly labelled with the dates I was meant to have them and whether the dish was for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. I also received a menu with a description and background of each dish along with heating instructions and a full list of ingredients. As I am used to larger and richer meals, I immediately thought that I wouldn’t stay full after some of the dishes. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that because of the use of slow burners such as oats and quinoa, the dishes really did fill me up and kept me satisfied until my next meal. Being someone who loves spice, I do wish that some of the dishes were seasoned more heavily or packed a bit more heat. The standouts from my subscription included the pear bircher with the moreish roasted peach; the tomato and basil soup with oatcakes to dip in; and the wild mushroom stroganoff which really filled me up. 

If you are someone who is having trouble sticking to a diet or is simply looking for the luxury of not having to worry about shopping, prepping, and planning your meals, a Balance Box subscription is definitely for you.
