Open until 4am, this Chinese hotspot has quickly become Londons go-to destination for late-night indulgence.
The Hippodrome, located in London's Leicester Square, may not be the Las Vegas strip, but it's certainly adopting a similar principle of a diverse culinary landscape. The vibrant gaming floor welcomes a mixed crowd, but lurking in the basement is Chop Chop, offering a welcomed alternative to heading outside to Chinatown for a quick bite.
Sceptics may question the harmony of a high-end Chinese eatery within the bustling casino scene, but Chop Chop effortlessly defies expectations. Venture down the historic venue's depths, and you'll be greeted by a sophisticated blend of moodily lit tables and neon-gilded booths, setting the stage for an unforgettable dining experience.
You'll be greeted by the one and only William Sin, a legend in the Soho food scene and the maestro making magic happen at this spot. With 26 years under his belt at the beloved Y Ming on Greek Street, William brings more than just experience to the table – he brings a truckload of nostalgia.
The menu, a concise testament to Cantonese culinary, is anchored by the renowned roast meats from the Four Seasons kitchen at Gerrard Street. Dive into the Cantonese roast duck, which is, quite literally, perfection. The succulent meat beneath, coupled with the dark sweet soy liquor, is delightful, and the best roast duck you can find outside of Hong Kong.
For the discerning palate, we recommend the marble-white, translucent prawn dumplings – as well as the scallops, adorned with roe and presented steamed on the shell with a delicate tangle of glass noodles, to elevate the dining experience. Seafood enthusiasts are also in for a treat with a lotus root-studded seafood stir-fry and the comforting long-braised aubergine in a rich sauce, customisable with or without minced pork. The seafood section also caters to high rollers with an array of lobster delicacies, promising a luxurious feast.
The futuristic touch of a robotic waiter, gracefully whisking away finished plates, adds a unique flair to the dining experience at Chop Chop.
Whether you find yourself seated at a poker table or revelling in late-night delights, Chop Chop is an unmissable spot. It's a place where the only gamble is the risk of missing out on an exceptional dining experience.
