Getting to Cap Karoso
Sumba’s Tambolaka airport is an hour by plane from Bali, with 3 daily flights out of Ngurah Rai airport in Denpasar. Cap Karoso is just a 40-minute drive from the airport. Roundtrip transfers from Tambolaka Airport are offered.
Rooms and villas
Cap Karoso is composed of 47 rooms and 20 villas and is a celebration of Sumbanese culture and tropical leisure. Each detail was conceived to offer the greatest comfort and to immerse guests into the magnetic and mysterious world of Sumba. And because there is nothing more beautiful than the colours of Karoso lagoon, every room has an ocean view.
Off-Script and In-Villa Dining
For all the cooking lovers every villa has a kitchen and a grill where guests can prepare food themselves using the fresh produce from its farm (they provide all supplementary ingredients too). You can also have a chef prepare a sublime dinner party in your villa. If you want to go off-script, the Cap Karoso team will assist with picnic preparation or any sort of surprise meal.
Sustainability
Cap Karoso Farm was started in 2019 on a three-hectare plot just behind the resort. What was once unused, rocky land is now covered in fertile organic gardens. Ultimately, these gardens mean more options for their menus, as many ingredients were previously unavailable on the island. Being mindful of the local ecosystem and climate, an esteemed French agriculturist selected the crops that would fill the needs of the resort. Giving back to the local community, its farm hosts a training program in landscaping and farming skills. The aim of its school is to teach local farmers techniques they can then bring to their own land, as well as offer younger generations valuable skills in hospitality landscaping.
Sumba Island is a delicate ecosystem, which is why every detail of Cap Karoso has been meticulously considered to preserve this fragile environment and rehabilitate damaged areas. Initiatives already in practice include:
Removal of non-indigenous weed species
Careful selection of landscape plants
Use of eco-friendly water treatment system
Energy consumption from onsite solar panels
Ban of any plastic packaging
Food waste reduction
Experiences
Cap Karoso aspires to create a new leisure lifestyle, the one where guests don’t need to choose between the thrill of immersion in the wilderness of the island and the refinement of lifestyle experiences in the resort. Finding a balance between cultural discovery and indulgence, the resort offers a wide variety of activities to choose from. These are some of our favourites:
Natural dyes workshop
Ikat weaving
Surfing at Pero
Spear fishing
Private boat charters
Sumba Cultural Institute
Meditation walks
Cooking classes
Yoga
Travelling with Kids
Cap Karoso is proud of its Little Adventurers Kids Club, dedicated to enhancing the experience of young explorers and making the visit unforgettable for even the youngest of guests by introducing them to the local culture and nature. They understand that traveling with kids requires time and energy, and so to ease guests efforts they offer baby equipment on demand, and an English-speaking babysitting service.
