This is Safari at a slower pace. Respecting nature and its animals in a remote and exclusive paradise in South Luangwa that offers timeless design, carefully curated spaces, and transformative experiences. Rewilding of the soul and sense of
freedom will take over. To say this is a bucket-list experience is an understatement. Book this truly one of a kind Safari to treasure for years to come.
The Luangwa valley can be found at the end of Africa’s Great rift valley in North Eastern Zambia. Zambia itself remains one of Africa’s hidden gems, a true wilderness where nature is queen. Real Africa.
As the Luangwa River flows further south through the National Park past Mfuwe and down to the southern reaches of the park you will find the Lusangazi sector. Here you will find yourself in the remote and exclusive paradise that is Sungani Lodge and Kulanidla Camp.
Rewilding and conserving an entire and once forgotten area of the South Luangwa National Park is at the forefront of this operation. A family’s collective love for Africa motivated by the intention of sharing one of the last remaining truly wild places with others, while protecting and carefully monitoring is the motivation.
Their story is not new, but they hope to provide guests with the opportunity to move forward with future travel from a different perspective and consider a slower more laid-back approach to the traditional safari. Thinking about where you are travelling and how it is benefitting that area through community and conservation is extremely key.
The heart of their properties is fused together by an incredible team of people from the local community. Much of what you see has been hand-built and created onsite. You are enveloped into the family who will guide you through your safari ensuring you leave with a new perspective and a true attachment to Zambia.
Both properties are tented and embody relaxed safari living. There is something inexplicably exciting about staying in a tent when on safari. You are utterly comfortable whilst immersing yourself in a one-of-a-kind experience. Fall asleep to the sounds of the bush with the night sky as your ceiling and gently wake to the sunrise.
Their Lodge is an idyllic safari retreat edging a pristine stretch of lagoon. The design focuses on space first and foremost. You are surrounded by an arrangement of natural colours, textures and unique pieces everywhere you look. The seven tents all have huge nature framing windows to let the outside in. The lodge is maxed out with amenities like air-con, a gym, private plunge pools and large private decks.
Its sister Camp is comprised of just four elevated tents furnished with a combination of gorgeous white linen, teak, brass and textures to create a classic safari feel. The outdoor slipper bath at each tent provides a peaceful sanctuary with incredible views of the Luangwa River. The wood paired with the classic fixtures gives the camp a relaxed but polished atmosphere.
The Lodge and Camp provide discovery, adventure, relaxation, and an insight of the ways of the bush as you are placed in the hands of qualified and passionate guides for every activity. Each day ends with a toast to an unforgettable African sunset. Activities include game drives, bush meals, day trips, water excursions, photographic hides, walking safaris and more.
The option of a private vehicle is available along with the ability to pre book and hire the latest Canon mirrorless equipment to capture that once in a lifetime memory.
The Luangwa is known as valley of the Leopard so expect to see these iconic animals along with others such as Lion, Buffalo, Elephant, Zebra, Hippo, Crocodile, an array of birdlife and all the plains game you would expect. This place is also well known for the Thornicroft Giraffe which is endemic to the area. Although not as frequent you could see Wild Dogs during your stay. As the safari season moves towards late August in the the elusive Roan antelope and Hartebeest make daily visits to the lagoon. Porcupine, Aardvark, Civet, Genet,
Honey Badger are among the nocturnal animals that are frequently seen. The commitment is all-encompassing and never-ending, playing our small part in ensuring we are all the beneficiaries of a better world.
Along with their partners in conservation, namely CSL, ZCP & DNPW, they are responsible for projects that will make a tangible difference for generations to come. Demonstrating through their actions that if they touch the earth gently and with respect, they will all pass on a better future for the people, flora and fauna of one of the few remaining places of natural wonder.
