There seems to be a million things to buy when having a new baby, but having already had a little boy there were somethings that I knew I couldn’t live without second time around. Here is The Sybarite’s guide to the top newborn products for 2018, to help make sure you are fully prepared for your little ones arrival.
Tommee Tippee Prep Day and Night
This has to be one of those baby products that in years to come we will wonder how people ever did without. I used the original Closer to Nature Perfect Prep Machine when my little boy was young, but since then Tommee Tippee have launched the Perfect Prep Day and Night. Not only does this upgrade prep the perfect bottle in two minutes, but it’s also sleep friendly with added features specifically designed to make night feeding so much easier, including a nightlight and volume control. I couldn’t wait to get my hands on one.
The Prep Machine is the ultimate lifesaver for anyone who is up at 3am with a crying baby waiting for a freshly-made, boiling hot, bottle to cool - in just two minutes the bottle is fully prepared at the perfect volume and temperature . No more running a hot bottle under a cold tap waiting for it to cool and it’s inbuilt filter system removes impurities in the water, whilst the initial blast of hot water kills any bacteria present in the milk, ensuring baby receives a fresh feed every time.
One of the main differences with the old and new machine is that the manual dial has been replaced by a backlit LED digital display, which gives it a much more luxurious feel. It fits in nicely with other top kitchen equipment such as toasters, kettles and coffee machines and is available in 4 colours meaning you can match it to whichever style you have in your home: White, Grey, Red and Black.
It’s easy to use and clean, making bottle prep as smooth as a baby’s bum. For anyone thinking that this is a luxury step too far, surely they can do without... think again - it’s pure genius!
This baby care kit includes everything you will need when your little bundle of joy arrives in the world, including digital thermometer, scissors, nail clippers, nail file, nasal aspirator, comb, gum massager and two plastic jars for storing liquids.I love the look of this kit, which is well-packaged in a lovely looking grey and taupe travel-friendly carry case. The handle will enable you to easily carry the bag everywhere with you or hang it in your bathroom. Also, thanks to the elastics, the outside zippered pockets and the plastic pockets on the inside, you can fully customise your storage. This would also make the perfect present for mums-to-be.
When I had my little boy I never quite found the right bouncer for him, and he wouldn’t settle in anything, which meant I did a lot of jiggling. Therefore this time I was determined to get it right. So when I found the Joie Dreamer Bouncer I was over the moon. Suitable from newborn onwards, it has a compact frame with a variety of handy extras and is designed to be a soothing solution both at home and on the go.
The dreamer seat rocks back and forth and is activated with a simple push, or when the baby moves. The lightweight design and compact fold ensure that it is easy to take the dreamer out with you when you are out and about. The bouncer also plays a selection of lullabies and natural sounds as well as soothing vibration functions, ensuring your little one is calm and happy wherever you go.
The seat has a three-position reclining seat and a two-position adjustable leg rest. This offers lots of comfortable options for baby. You can also flip down the foot rest to convert the seat into a stationary seat. One of the main features for me though is the fact that it can be stored nearly completely flat which means when I’m not using it, I can push it out of sight under the bed.
The little control panel is easily hidden by a little flap that closes with Velcro, which prevents little fingers from pushing the buttons. The cover is removable, washable, and has a plush infant body support and seat pad which are cosy and perfectly cocoon baby. I chose the stylish ‘In the Rain’ design, which is mainly grey with cute pictures on the seat. This is going to be perfect for when Baby number two arrives.
Whether you decide to breast or bottle feed, for most mums there comes a time when your little one will have to take milk from a bottle and without the guarantee that you will be able to breastfeed it’s advisable to have a steriliser ready to go before baby is born. Sterilisers do not need to be complicated, which is why I love the Tommee Tippee Electric steam steriliser. It’s new design is sleek and it is extremely easy to use. All you need to do is fill with 80 ml of water (which can be measured out on the bottles), load up and switch on. Not only does it conveniently fit up to five bottles, it only takes five minutes to kill off 99.9 per cent of household bacteria. If kept closed, it also keeps bottles sterile for up to 24 hours making it a great time and space saver – it measures in at around the same size as a regular toaster, so it’s easy to store and won’t dominate your kitchen counter.
Whether you are a first-time parent or a busy parent who has little time to go through a hectic sterilisation process, then the Tommee Tippee Electric Steam Steriliser Set is ideal for you! It’s extremely simple to use, with the simple press of a button to turn it on, and it’s finished within minutes.
This kit is perfect for mums-to-be and also makes a lovely gift for a pregnant friend. When it arrived I was really excited to open it and start using the products. Made by the award-winning, British-made brand, Love Boo, the luxurious gift box includes nine heavenly products to pamper both mum and baby. There are five gifts for mum and four for the little one. The product which I started using straight away was the ‘Super Stretchy Miracle Oil’, which helps to prevent stretch marks and keep skin hydrated, I really enjoyed rubbing this on my bump each evening before bed. The other products for mum include, the ‘Splendidly Soothing Bath Soak’, a ‘Silky Soft Body Wash’, fragranced with lemon, ginger and peppermint, a ‘Creamy Body Smoother to help fight stretch-marks and cellulite, and last but not least, Perineum Oil to help prepare the body before birth.
For baby’s delicate skin there is a gentle ‘Top to Toe Wash’, which includes oats and conditioning olive oil. A ‘Creamy Baby Lotion’ containing pomegranate extract. ‘Soft and Splashy Bubbles’ for bath time and ‘Soothing Bottom Butter’ a skin soothing wonder to help prevent nappy rash.
All the products contains no parabens, sulphates, TEA, petrochemicals, synthetic colours, DEA or PEGS and are all made in the UK.
We arrived at Alila Villas Uluwatu well into the evening, exhausted from our flight and from the chaos that was the traffic. As soon as our feet landed on Alila grounds we instantly felt we were in a different place completely and that all that travel up to that moment was worth it.
The Light Salon was founded by two best friends Hannah Measures and Laura Ferguson who had a shared passion for the benefits of LED treatments. They went on to found The Light Salon due to the lack of concentrated inexpensive LED treatments in the market.
Our editor Niamh Walsh reflects on the legacy of Britain's longest reigning monarch, whom, after 70 years of service to her country, was peacefully laid to rest yesterday at Westminster Abbey as the entire world watched on in sorrow.
With breathtaking scenery, sprawling views of the South Downs and sparkling wines galore, Niamh Walsh discusses the beautiful Exton Park; home to 60 acres of lush vineyards that are carefully grown, nurtured and harvested to produce something rather extraordinary… exquisite English wine.
