There seems to be a million things to buy when having a new baby, but having already had a little boy there were somethings that I knew I couldn’t live without second time around. Here is The Sybarite’s guide to the top newborn products for 2018, to help make sure you are fully prepared for your little ones arrival.

This has to be one of those baby products that in years to come we will wonder how people ever did without. I used the original Closer to Nature Perfect Prep Machine when my little boy was young, but since then Tommee Tippee have launched the Perfect Prep Day and Night. Not only does this upgrade prep the perfect bottle in two minutes, but it’s also sleep friendly with added features specifically designed to make night feeding so much easier, including a nightlight and volume control. I couldn’t wait to get my hands on one.
The Prep Machine is the ultimate lifesaver for anyone who is up at 3am with a crying baby waiting for a freshly-made, boiling hot, bottle to cool - in just two minutes the bottle is fully prepared at the perfect volume and temperature . No more running a hot bottle under a cold tap waiting for it to cool and it’s inbuilt filter system removes impurities in the water, whilst the initial blast of hot water kills any bacteria present in the milk, ensuring baby receives a fresh feed every time.
One of the main differences with the old and new machine is that the manual dial has been replaced by a backlit LED digital display, which gives it a much more luxurious feel. It fits in nicely with other top kitchen equipment such as toasters, kettles and coffee machines and is available in 4 colours meaning you can match it to whichever style you have in your home: White, Grey, Red and Black.

When I had my little boy I never quite found the right bouncer for him, and he wouldn’t settle in anything, which meant I did a lot of jiggling. Therefore this time I was determined to get it right. So when I found the Joie Dreamer Bouncer I was over the moon. Suitable from newborn onwards, it has a compact frame with a variety of handy extras and is designed to be a soothing solution both at home and on the go.
The dreamer seat rocks back and forth and is activated with a simple push, or when the baby moves. The seat has a three-position reclining seat and a two-position adjustable leg rest. This offers lots of comfortable options for baby. One of the main features for me though is the fact that it can be stored nearly completely flat which means when I’m not using it, I can push it out of sight under the bed.
The little control panel is easily hidden by a little flap that closes with Velcro, which prevents little fingers from pushing the buttons. The cover is removable, washable, and has a plush infant body support and seat pad which are cosy and perfectly cocoon baby. I chose the stylish ‘In the Rain’ design, which is mainly grey with cute pictures on the seat. This is going to be perfect for when Baby number two arrives.
Whether you decide to breast or bottle feed, for most mums there comes a time when your little one will have to take milk from a bottle and without the guarantee that you will be able to breastfeed it’s advisable to have a steriliser ready to go before baby is born. For baby’s delicate skin there is a gentle ‘Top to Toe Wash’, which includes oats and conditioning olive oil. A ‘Creamy Baby Lotion’ containing pomegranate extract. ‘Soft and Splashy Bubbles’ for bath time and ‘Soothing Bottom Butter’ a skin soothing wonder to help prevent nappy rash.
