Founded in New York city in the early 2000s, esteemed restaurant brand Bagatelle now has outposts across the world’s most coveted destinations: from Dubai to Doha, Bodrum to St. Barths. London’s own outpost, on Mayfair’s Dover Street, opened in 2019 and has just had a chic revamp.

Bagatelle London's design has been overseen by Sam Baron who honed his craft as a consultant for illustrious brands from Dior Maison to Diptyque. The glossy wood panelling, beige hues, gilded details and soft lighting strike a note of insouciant glamour to let the team’s exquisite dishes take centre stage.

Speaking of food, the menu has been overseen and designed by Global Corporate Chef, Rocco Seminara and newly appointed London Executive Chef, Giuseppe Strippoli, who has held positions at top institutions including The Lanesborough and Aquavit. The menu is designed to be a love letter to the French Riviera, capturing the joy of hedonistic days in the endless sun. Speaking to the locale, the chefs also put a focus on locally-sourced seasonal ingredients.

The menu is extensive, serving up an array of Mediterranean-with-a-twist dishes designed to be convivially shared. Spoilt for choice? The signature set menu is a condensed version of the menu highlights. It commences with a generous serving of pillowy-soft focaccia generously topped with parmesan paired with a herbaceous olive oil. Diners can opt for one of the signature cocktails, which transports you out of cosy London on a winter evening to sunnier climes. I opted for the Fraise-sur-Dordogne, a punchy tequila based concoction mixed with Campari and Cointreau, while homemade chilli-strawberry syrup adds a dash of sweetness and heat.

Starters include an ultra fresh tuna tartare served with a velvety avocado creme to offset slivers of hot radish, and zesty sea bream ceviche marinated with mandarin and tagète limoni which is a zingy delight.

Main dishes include a rigatoni pasta dish with hearty hunks of veal confit in a rich and glossy sauce and juicy lamp chops grilled to perfection (a personal favourite) served with roast chicory and a flavour bomb of black garlic puree. Desserts triumph with a feather-light matcha souffle, made more decadent when paired with a chocolate sorbet, while the true Instagram moment comes via the Golden Milk chocolate bar with a glossy Rooibos tea ganache which looks almost too pretty to eat. This is generously sized to share with your table guests.

Bagatelle London is truly a hotspot for night owls and late diners, becoming super lively around 10pm as we were finishing our meal. The Mayfair hotspot blurs the lines between club and restaurant, regularly hosting DJs, performers and live music making it a true destination in the heart of W1.
