From classic Negronis in Mayfair to truffle, mezcal, pandan, rhubarb, Earl Grey and coffee-spiked twists, these are the best Negronis in London to drink this September.

In 1919, according to cocktail legend, Count Camillo Negroni walked into Florence’s Caffè Casoni and asked bartender Fosco Scarselli to strengthen his Americano by replacing the soda water with gin.

A man who looked at alcohol and thought, this needs less water. We respect that.

The result was gin, Campari and sweet vermouth in equal measure. More than a century later, Negroni Week returns from 21 to 27 September 2026, and London has interpreted “three ingredients” rather loosely.

Count Camillo started it. London has taken it from here.

Nipotina, Mayfair: Three Ways To Corrupt A Classic

At Samyukta Nair’s Mayfair Italian, Henry Southan’s Negroni Shakerato mixes Campari, Malfy Gin, sweet vermouth and orange juice.

There is also the Earl Grey and lavender laced Clay Pot Negroni and a cherry leaning Negroni alla Ciliegia, with seasonal stuzzichini from Head Chef Somaia Hammad alongside.

Three Negronis feels less like indecision and more like research.

Sale e Pepe: The Italian Tour

Sale e Pepe is serving five Negronis across its Knightsbridge original and Sale e Pepe Mare at The Langham, all £15 for Negroni Week.

Bar Director Pietro Collina’s menu travels through Italy, from the classic Florence Negroni to saffron led Messina, figgy Portofino and coffee and tobacco laced Trieste. There is also a No-Groni for anyone exercising suspicious levels of restraint.

Five regions. Five Negronis.

Fenchurch Restaurant, Sky Garden: Truffle At 37 Floors

Fenchurch at Sky Garden has taken Camillo’s “make it stronger” philosophy and added truffle.

The Truffle Washed Mezcal Negroni swaps gin for truffle infused Del Maguey Vida Mezcal with Campari and Antica Formula, served 37 floors above London.

Subtle, it is not. But then neither was replacing water with gin.

At The Nickel Bar at The Ned, the Negroni finds itself among relatives. The American style cocktail bar pours classics including the Americano, the drink Camillo allegedly tinkered with in 1919, and its whiskey loving cousin, the Boulevardier.

At Bar Antoine, the Italian Count appears to have run off with a Frenchman.

The Café-Calva Negroni combines gin and Calvados with coffee liqueur, bitter citrus and chocolate notes inside Yannick Alléno’s Pavyllon London.

We have travelled some distance from gin, Campari and vermouth.

Dangerous, really.

No Politics comes with a Parmesan crisp, Golden Rule brings yuzu gin and Luxardo Bitter, Second Degree adds grapefruit, peach and Campari, while Good Intentions keeps things alcohol free.

Add wild boar arancini or winter truffle orecchiette. A Negroni followed by pasta remains one of adulthood’s better decisions.

Hoppers’ Pandan Negroni Colombo combines No.10 Gin, Coconut Campari, pandan and vermouth.

Sweet, aromatic and slightly savoury, it takes the Count from Florence to Sri Lanka without losing the bitterness that matters.

Camillo probably did not foresee pandan entering his legacy.

KOKUM gives the classic Negroni a warm, spice-led twist with cinnamon infused gin, sweet vermouth and Campari.

By London standards, practically restrained.

Caractère, Notting Hill: Autumn Is Calling

At Caractère in Notting Hill, gin makes way for English rye whisky in the Rye Negroni.

Fielden Rye Whisky, sweet vermouth and bitter liqueur keep the familiar three part structure intact, but make it richer, jammy and decidedly more autumnal.

Same mathematics. Darker mood.

The Savoury Negroni swaps gin for Altos Plata tequila with tomato and olive bitters, while Coffee, Tropical and Stonefruit variations take things in increasingly inventive directions.

At Bishopsgate, follow the neon downstairs to WM Barker or The Vaults.

One week was clearly never going to be enough.

One hundred and seven years after one Italian supposedly decided soda water was holding him back, London is still finding new ways to interpret the consequences.

Some are classic. Some contain truffle. One involves pandan. Another has Earl Grey.

But the original principle remains excellent. When life gives you soda water, replace it with gin.
