As the temperature starts to drop, it's the easy decision to just throw on a pair of joggers and your cosiest hoodie to stay warm & call it a day. However, there's a whole host of AW23 trends that will patently ignite the inner fashionista within you to go beyond the usual winter staples, so you can look cute & cosy this season!

Winter is definitely the best season for style. Figuring out the perfect layering system, the amazing outerwear to complete your fit, and of course - the accessories! Functionality meets fashion as gloves and beanies become wardrobe staples, as well as easy ways to take your look to the next level without looking like you're trying too hard. In this style guide, I'll be going through my favourite winter fashion trends for the 22/23 season, and how you can replicate them, so keep reading if you want to add a bit of zhuzh to your wardrobe!

Metallics

We're witnessing the revival of the 80s as metallics re-enter the fashion zeitgeist! A fun way to spice up any outfit, metallics were seen all over the runway, from LaQuan Smith to Altuzarra. Whilst wearing metallics might seem rather daunting, the simplest way to style them is with basic neutrals and clean, monochrome items. My favourite take on this trend is the metallic 'disco pant', which has been seen all over social media! They're definitely an 'it-girl' item to own, so make sure to get your hands on some.

Leather

Leather was another top hit amongst the catwalks, leaving a noticeable trail on the runway after featuring in Alexander McQueen, Bottega Veneta & Balenciaga - to name a few. I have loved the Swedish influencer Matilda Djerf's take on the trend - incorporating leather jackets, bags and boots into her casual, every-day outfits to zhuzh up her look! A good quality leather jacket is definitely a wise investment, particularly if it's vintage and has that 'already worn' aesthetic.

Fur (faux)

Faux fur coats have never really not been in fashion, thanks to the influence of Miss Carrie Bradshaw. A great item to have in your wardrobe; they jazz up any outfit, and they're very warm! Over the years I've collected my fair share, so I would recommend purchasing a vintage coat, as they generally feel (and look) more high quality than some of the fast-fashion replicas being produced today!

80s Tailoring

Another 80s trend we can't seem to get enough of! Power suits with fierce shoulder pads were spotted on the runways of GUCCI and Dolce & Gabbana. Perhaps driven by women's return to the workplace after the COVID-19 pandemic, designers have elevated the traditional suit, as the masculine cuts of the blazers and trousers are juxtaposed with the sleek fit of waistcoats and heels (and don't forget the tie!). Raid your boyfriend's closet if you have to - but this is a trend you won't want to miss out on!

Tweed

A British staple (but adored worldwide), tweed has made a comeback for winter 22/23. Partially popularised by the 'old-money' aesthetic seen all over TikTok, a tweed blazer is definitely the centre of any preppy outfit. Loved by our late majesty the Queen, it is a classic wardrobe piece giving whoever wears it an elevated (yet not too loud) look. Easily worn & accessorise-able, tweed looks good on everyone no matter their age! Try wearing a tweed blazer oversized to really level-up your outfit this winter.
