From Hong Kong to New York, Paris to Bangkok, the world’s most glamorous cities boast outposts from the esteemed The Peninsula hotel brand. Now, there is a shiny, new opening to add to the portfolio, right in the heart of London.
Today The Peninsula London swings open its doors and warmly welcomes its first guests. As The Peninsula’s first hotel in the UK; the arrival in the capital has been the talk of travel editors and luxury hotel enthusiasts alike since the news of its opening was announced in 2013. Occupying a prime spot in Belgravia — between Hyde Park Corner and Wellington Arch – this stellar property is sure to draw in a well-heeled crowd.
The Lowdown
The Peninsula hotel group is synonymous with refined luxury and sophistication, and this new London outpost is no exception. Meticulously designed by leading contemporary architectural firm Hopkins Architect, the sleek and capacious hotel seamlessly echoes the heritage buildings within its vicinity. Cleverly designed to give an uncanny sense of peace within the city, the hotel is situated in an off-street enclave. Guests can arrive in discreet style to the hotel’s cobbled courtyard, blooming with climbing jasmines, wisteria and majestic Japanese maple trees.

The interplay between nature and historic British architecture permeates the hotel interiors, executed under the exacting eye of Peter Marino. Boasting 190 guest rooms, these soothing spaces exude understated luxury — think elegant neutral hues, floor-to-ceiling windows, mahogany-panelled dressing rooms and honey onyx-clad bathrooms. Celebrating the ‘Best of British’, The Peninsula London sets itself apart from its international counterparts, collaborating with hand-picked British artisans on design elements – from fashion designer Jenny Packham to perfumer Timothy Han.

Guests can hop from a quintessential afternoon tea in The Lobby, to Chinese cuisine (but not as you know it) at Canton Blue, and expertly mixed cocktails at Brooklands Bar, taking in panoramic views over the city.

Traveling with children presents a myriad of challenges that any parent can attest to. From the annoying task of packing and determining the right amount of clothing, nappies and toys to bring, to orchestrating the journey from home to the airport, before boarding the flight and getting the kids to settle, all the while trying to arrive at their destination in one piece.
