Aimina Fitzsimons discovers Ibiza’s duality as both a hedonistic hub and a sanctuary of restoration.
Ibiza is often reduced to a single narrative: day parties, superclubs and excess. Yet beyond the Champagne showers and sunrise DJ sets lies another side of the White Isle - one steeped in history, design, gastronomy, and understated luxury. For travellers looking to experience both worlds, NH Collection Ibiza strikes the perfect balance.
Framed by Ibiza Town's marina and the UNESCO-listed Old Town, the boutique hotel serves as an elegant gateway to the island's many personalities. Designed by renowned Spanish architects Ribas & Ribas and led by General Manager Ariadna Bonet Casals, the property combines contemporary sophistication with the laid-back spirit that has made Ibiza one of Europe's most coveted destinations.
Idyllic Location
Location is everything in Ibiza, and NH Collection’s Balearic property claims a prime spot on the southeastern coast in the island’s capital, Eivissa. A short ten-minute stroll takes guests to the bustling marina lined with luxury yachts, designer boutiques and waterfront restaurants. Nearby you'll find Ebusus, a local culinary landmark, alongside familiar highstreet favourites such as Zara and Sephora. Equally appealing is the hotel's proximity to some of Ibiza's most legendary nightlife venues, including Pacha and Lío, allowing guests to immerse themselves in the island's famous party scene before retreating to a more tranquil sanctuary.
With just 38 rooms, NH Collection delivers the kind of personalised experience that larger resorts often struggle to replicate. Room categories range from Premium Rooms, Suites, and Penthouses to the more exclusive Grand Sundeck Suite which accommodates up to six people.
Modern Interiors
The hotel's attention to detail becomes immediately apparent upon entering the rooms. Inspired by the sleek yachts moored in the nearby harbour, the interiors cleverly maximise both space and style. Thoughtfully designed wardrobes transform into mirrors and doors, while carefullycurated furnishings conjure up visions of luxury vessels.
Modern travellers will appreciate the many practical touches woven throughout the property. Portable Bluetooth speakers set the evening’s soundtrack, while Chromecast-enabled televisions, curated coffee table books celebrating Ibiza's fashion and cultural heritage, and dedicated workspaces cater to guests blending business with leisure.
Each room also features a private outdoor terrace overlooking either the marina or the pool, offering a peaceful vantage point from which to watch the island wake up - or recover from the night before.
For those seeking an elevated stay, the penthouse provides a particularly memorable experience. Complete with its own rooftop space, it offers panoramic views across Ibiza Town and the Mediterranean beyond. During our stay, mornings began here with a calming yoga session as the first rays of sunlight illuminated the city, creating a welcome contrast to the island's energetic nightlife.
The hotel's central location also makes it an ideal base from which to explore Dalt Vila, Ibiza's fortified old quarter. Dating back more than 2,500 years, the citadel stands as one of the Mediterranean's most significant historical sites. Originally settled by the Phoenicians before passing through Carthaginian, Roman and Moorish hands, Dalt Vila remains remarkably preserved. Its imposing Renaissance walls, constructed in the sixteenth century to defend the island against pirate invasions and Ottoman attacks, now glow beautifully after sunset, offering visitors a glimpse into Ibiza's storied past.
Gastronomic Elegance
The dining experience at NH Collection Ibiza is a cosmopolitan affair with three distinctive offerings: SLVJ, Rhino Bar, and Arrogante. Aside from being the hotel's signature restaurant, SLVJ is a destination in its own right. Known internationally for its vibrant fusion of Japanese cuisine, immersive entertainment and nightlife-inspired atmosphere, the concept feels perfectly suited to Ibiza's untamed spirit.
Dinner here is designed to be an experience rather than a meal. Rhino-shaped cocktails arrive with theatrical flair, while an extensive menu showcases the kitchen's creativity and precision. Highlights included the delicate tuna tartare, an exceptional selection of nigiri, signature tiraditos, spicy salmon rolls, the restaurant's celebrated Dinamita Roll, black cod, and an indulgent Basque-style cheesecake to finish.
Throughout the stay, gastronomy remained at the heart of the experience. Whether enjoying breakfast poolside, sharing tapas, or sampling local specialities such as traditional Ibizan herbal liqueur, every meal felt carefully considered.
Island Bliss
No visit to the island would be complete without exploring its crystal-clear waters. Formentera, Ibiza’s smaller and quieter sister island is located just 45 minutes from Ibiza Town by boat, and is renowned for its turquoise waters, white-sand beaches, and slower pace of life. While ferries operate regularly throughout the day, arriving by private charter adds an undeniable sense of occasion.
For a moment of uninterrupted bliss, pause for lunch at beachfront restaurant, Kiosko El Pirata. Complete with uninterrupted sea views, fresh Mediterranean cuisine and warm hospitality, the experience perfectly captures the effortless luxury that defines the Balearic Islands.
What truly distinguishes NH Collection Ibiza, however, is its ability to curate bespoke experiences beyond the realms of the hotel itself. Guests can arrange everything from VIP nightclub tables and scuba-diving excursions to hot air balloon rides, private wine tastings, personal training sessions, cocktail masterclasses and even babysitting services. Whatever the request, the team approaches it with genuine enthusiasm and impeccable attention to detail.
Our long weekend concluded with an intimate wine tasting at SLVJ followed by a private rooftop celebration overlooking Ibiza Town - a fitting farewell to an island that continues to surprise and reinvent itself.
Ibiza may be synonymous with partying, but NH Collection reminds visitors that the island's greatest luxury lies in its contrasts. Whether you’re craving a serene yoga session followed by a dose of history, or looking to dive head-first into world-class nightlife, this unique property embraces the full spectrum of the Ibiza experience.
