Imagine spiriting yourself and someone you love away to a place so magical it feels as though it exists in a world all its own.
Nestled within the heart of Somerset’s stunning, 500- acre Orchardleigh Estate, the Boathouse is the ultimate retreat for those seeking a romantic escape worthy of a Jane Austen novel. Part of a historic estate which, is indeed, often featured in period dramas on film.
Perched on the edge of a shimmering 35-acre lake, the Boathouse is found through an enchanting woodland path, but this is no ordinary boathouse. The grand, pillared entrance sets a luxurious tone as you step into a world that feels like time has stood still, especially for you. With its secluded charm, it’s a delicious secret waiting to be uncovered, especially in the glow of autumn.
The lakefront terrace is adorned with statues and vibrant foliage, offering a peaceful, picturesque space to relax. A jet hot tub sits at the ready – just order a bottle of champagne for double the bubbles! As the sun dips below the horizon, the calm of the lake reflects the fading light, creating a scene that’s nothing short of magical. We found ourselves spending hours here, basking in the beauty of the surroundings and in the simplicity of being together.
Inside, the Boathouse is just as enchanting. The living area, with its softly glowing open fireplace, provided the perfect setting for a cosy evening. The Boathouse’s décor is rich in attention to detail, it’s easy to lose yourself in its charm.
Mornings were magical too. We woke to a mist hovering over the lake, giving the estate a dreamlike quality. The estate itself is a treasure trove of history. We strolled through the immaculate grounds, explored the stunning gardens, and even visited the island church. For those seeking a bit more activity, there’s a golf course and estate stables, where you can indulge in a romantic carriage ride. It’s as though Orchardleigh Estate has thought of everything.
For those wanting to venture out, the nearby, artsy town of Frome offers a delightful escape, brimming with creatively re-purposed community spaces, unique local artisan shops, and captivating historical architecture. But honestly, once you’ve arrived at the Boathouse, you may never want to leave.
