The stars assembled on the red carpet on Sunday evening for the 98th edition of The Oscars. One Battle After Another took home an impressive six awards, while Hamnet star Jessie Buckley and Sinners star Michael B Jordan nabbed the top acting prizes.

Memorable Speeches
In her acceptance speech, Jessie Buckley, who became the first Irish woman to win a Best Actress Oscar, spoke about the “beautiful chaos of a mother’s heart”. She thanked the “incredible women” she stood beside, and added, “I am inspired by your heart and I want to work with every single one of you.”

Elsewhere, Michael B Jordan said that he was standing on the Oscars stage as a result of the “people that came before me… Sydney Poitier, Denzel Washington, Halle Berry, Jamie Fox, Forest Whittaker, Will Smith… To be amongst those giants, amongst those greats… thank you everybody… I feel it."

Sinners’ Director of Photography, Autumn Durald Arkapaw, became the first woman to win the Oscar for Best Cinematography. In her moving speech, she thanked the cast and crew of Sinners, and also asked all the women in the room to rise to their feet, adding that she wouldn’t be there if it wasn’t for them.
"I really, really truly mean that," she continued. "I have felt so much love from all the women on this whole campaign and have gotten to meet so many people and I just feel like moments like this happen because of you guys and I want to thank you for that."

Amy Madigan, who scooped the gong for Best Supporting Actress in horror thriller Weapons, injected a dose of humour with her acceptance speech. Aside from paying tribute to her husband Ed, Madigan also joked about preparing for this moment, saying, “I mean, I was in the shower last night trying to think of something to say, as I was shaving my legs, and - I’ve got pants on, I don’t have to worry about that!”

In a rare tribute to her family, she finished by adding: “Most of all, I want to thank my beautiful daughter, Lily,” she concluded, “her husband, Sean. And, of course, all the dogs. But the most important is my beloved Ed. You’ve been with me forever. And that’s a long-ass time, and none of this would mean anything if he wasn’t by my side."
