W Ibiza: Island Luxury, Amplified

Maria Holloway checks into W Ibiza, where boho glamour meets the White Isle's livelier, more spirited side.

Some hotels ease you in gently. At W Ibiza, the impact feels immediate. From the moment guests arrive, it’s hard to ignore the strong current that runs through the place. Here, welcomes feel less like a check-in and more like an invitation. A call to sit back and relish the charm of Ibiza as it washes over you in waves.

During my recent stay at the property, the team greeted me with such warmth and easy energy that I felt part of the place before I'd even reached my room. Any travel-weariness seemed to melt away on the spot. Bags barely down, I was ushered through the sweeping reception and into the W Lounge, a cavernous, light-flooded space filled with textures, colours and a low hum of music - all the makings of a prime spot for lingering over coffee.

I arrived ready and raring. W met me with open arms.

Design-Forward Interiors

Baranowitz + Kronenberg, the architects behind W Ibiza, clearly understood the assignment: bottle the island's bohemian soul without the clichés. Handpainted artwork, handcrafted detailing and woven textures run through every corridor, lounge and terrace. Spaces feel funky, playful and spirited, yet always considered rather than contrived. It's the kind of place that has you buzzing before you've even unpacked.

Boho Flourishes

Stepping into my suite, this same spirit felt tangible in the layered textures, vibrant colours, punchy artwork and slew of cushions that looked hand-thrown rather than hotel-bought. Generous in scale, rooms moreover feature a shelf of curated Ibiza and bohemian titles, a bed you can sink into, and a private balcony opening onto the terraced steps below.

In the bathrooms, the gleaming double vanity feels especially indulgent, making the shift from beach day to dinner reservation entirely seamless. But it’s the Marshall speaker waiting on the side that transforms the mood, inviting relaxed, Champagne-sipping moments that quickly evolve into energised spells as the sun sets beyond the balcony.

Each of the 38 suites is a masterclass in Ibiza-cool luxury, with rooms opening onto terraces that face either the sea or the mountains. They form part of a collection that runs to 116 rooms and a single, coveted penthouse.

Beach Bliss

Downstairs, Wet Deck is the hotel's social backbone. W Ibiza is the only hotel in town with direct beach access - a feature they’ve naturally leant into. The pool sits at its heart, ringed by sunbeds and easy, laid-back lounge areas, while an outdoor cocktail bar pours from morning until late, sharp little plates arriving whenever hunger strikes. It's a space that manages to feel both social and restorative: toes-in-the-sand energy on one side, a calmer, wellness-minded hush on the other, with weekly DJ sessions to lift the tempo when the mood calls for it. It’s vibrant yet somehow still calm - a rare balance that’s harder to pull off than it sounds.

Golden Hour, Maxxed

If Wet Deck is the heartbeat, Glow Rooftop is the deep breath. This adults-only infinity pool tips toward panoramic views of the bay and the Santa Eulalia hills beyond, all cool white-and-blue serenity against the endless water. It was here that I spent one long, unhurried afternoon that quietly slipped into an evening punctuated by club sandwiches, easy lunchtime bites and a quiet moment watching the sun sink behind the Santa Eulalia, cocktail in hand. It’s the type of view that has you slipping your phone back into your pocket as you plot your next dream getaway.

A Menu Worth Waking For

W Ibiza takes food seriously. Breakfast is ordered from a menu that seems to offer a sprinkling of everything. Think Eggs Benedict, fruit bowls, fresh juices, detox blends, and mimosas for those in no rush at all - the sort of spread that turns a morning meal into a slow, indulgent event. Come evening, Steps does relaxed Italian brilliantly: wood-fired pizza, fresh pillowy mozzarella, handmade pasta and desserts worth saving room for, served on a terrace made for lingering. Down on the shore, the newest arrival, Yellow Fish, brings Mediterranean cuisine - grilled fish, Spanish tapas and sangria - to a sandy, boho-styled setting, with live music drifting through on the right nights.

Striking a Balance

For all its energy, W Ibiza also caters to wellness enthusiasts chasing the balance between cocktails and cardio. Fit, the hotel's gym, has the polish of a boutique studio: dim lighting, mirrored walls, Technogym kit and free weights, with the charged feel of a Barry's or 1Rebel studio back home. Afterwards, the Away Spa offers guests revitalisation through its sauna, hamman, and medley of treatments using Comfort Zone's clean, high-performance formulas. Between the two, there’s ample opportunity to escape the buzz and recharge in luxury. When the night calls, Below night lounge is a must and serves as proof that a day of yoga mats and ice-cold plunges can end just as happily with a cocktail and a beat.

Getting There

Just 20 minutes from Ibiza airport and 15 from the old town, W Ibiza is easily accessible and close to everything you might possibly need. Santa Eulalia - the island's third-largest town - has a laid-back bohemian rhythm all of its own. Highlights include its marina, artisan market, art galleries and boutiques, which are an easy stroll from the door. Nikki Beach is a short hop up the coast for something more lively, while sailing and diving out on the water might appeal to anyone after more than a lounger. In other words, prepare to dip into Ibiza's famous energy before retreating from it just as easily.

Final Thoughts

W Ibiza doesn't do quiet luxury - it does intentional luxury that’s hard to miss. There isn’t a single feature that makes it stand out, rather an elusive feeling that seeps into everything, from cocktails at the rooftop bar as the sun drops, to sand underfoot at the beach, mornings spent flitting between the gym and pool, and evenings that never quite lose their charge.

It's a place that somehow leaves you feeling both energised and rebalanced. As you inevitably return to home soil, you'll find that you’re still glowing, still buzzing, and undeniably revived.
