This adults-only oasis resides on prime real estate in Palma. Come for the first class service and stay for the infinity pool.
When it comes to five star stays, El Llorenç Parc de la Mar has thought of everything. This luxury bolthole is the hotel of choice for discerning travellers looking to make the most of Mallorca’s year-round sunshine.
The location
The hotel is situated in the heart of the La Calatrava quarter. Known for its bohemian atmosphere, mediaeval atmosphere and plethora of restaurants and shops, there is plenty to fill your day here.
The location is equally perfect for those eager to explore the old town, which is only a short stroll away. Nearby attractions include the La Seu Palma Cathedral, Placa Major and Passeig des Born.
The aesthetic
The building's original facade has been preserved, in a nod to its historic roots. El Llorençs’ decor draws inspiration from ancient Arabian art, which is evident in various design details. During excavation, an 11th- century Arabic oven (known as a Tannur) was uncovered, emphasising the historical nature of the site. As a result, the Arabic Star is a prominent symbol throughout the property and can be found carved on wooden flooring, etched into pool towels and adorning bedroom dresser drawers. Anyone looking closely enough will be able to spot the motif just about anywhere.
Mallorca artist Toni Font was tasked with developing the artistic vision for the hotel. Paintings and photographs have been thoughtfully chosen, from abstract pieces to native flowers and architectural photographs. Some original pieces date back to the early 20th century.
The amenities
Given its adults-only status, every common area is noticeably quiet and relaxed, which is a welcome change of pace from the bustle of the town centre.
The rooftop pool is arguably one of the hotel's major drawcards, especially given its status as the longest infinity pool in Palma. Looking out over the Mediterranean sea, it is the perfect spot for an afternoon of sun-worshipping; be sure to swim to the water’s edge for an unrivalled view of glamorous superyachts and swaying palm trees. When the allure of the rooftop menu calls, food and drinks can be ordered directly to the sun beds to maximise relaxation time.
Book in at the spa for access to the Turkish bath, sauna, ice fountain, aromatic shower and range of treatments using products from Spanish Brand Natural Bissé. The spa's 14-metre long indoor pool is lit by the glow of oversized lanterns, casting an illuminating tone over the entire area.
While relaxation is high on the priority list, it's worth noting the hotel also has an onsite gym for anyone eager to fit a workout into their vacation time.
The dining
Michelin-star restaurant DINS Santi Taura is widely hailed as an unmissable gastronomic experience. Having been awarded two Repsol Suns (a Spanish award given to the best restaurants in the country) and one Michelin Star every year since 2021, there is little wonder people flock to dine here.
Using seasonal ingredients, chef Santi Taura pays homage to Mallorca’s traditional cuisine through his namesake restaurant. Balearic fare is diverse in flavour, giving chef Taura plenty of scope to create a lineup of memorable dishes. Chief among them are the stuffed snails Mallorcan style, toast with organic sobrassada and blue lobster stew. Chef Taura has previously noted that nothing on the menu has been created and every dish has been documented in the land’s history, meaning every flavour is an ode to place.
Come morning, the hotel offers a ‘gastronomic sunrise’ experience, featuring a buffet of delicious pastries, fresh fruits and made-to-order hot dishes to ensure you’re starting your day on the right foot.
The verdict
For a truly memorable experience in Palma, a few nights at El Llorenç Parc de la Mar is an absolute must. The perfect combination of luxury, history and tranquility, there is something for every kind of holidaymaker.
