Frieze London and Frieze Masters are back in grand style for their 20th and 11th editions, respectively, from October 11th to 15th, 2023. These prestigious art fairs, set in the picturesque Regent's Park, are poised to bring together a dazzling array of international galleries spanning 46 countries. With extensive on-site and citywide programming, this year's event promises to be a celebration of London's vibrant cultural community. Eva Langret, Director of Frieze London, has eagerly anticipated this year's fair, describing it as the "most international edition to date." The 2023 edition of Frieze London boasts a remarkable lineup of over 160 renowned galleries. Among them, 28 galleries are celebrating their 20th consecutive year at Frieze, showcasing a diverse range of solo, group, and thematic exhibitions.

Honouring the Past and Present at Frieze Masters

Nathan Clements-Gillespie, Director of Frieze Masters, reflects on the contribution Frieze Masters has made over the years. The fair allows visitors to discover works from prehistory to the turn of the 21st century, demonstrating the connections in creative production throughout millennia. This year's edition of Frieze Masters emphasises artists concurrently exhibited in esteemed London institutions, reinforcing its role in engaging with museum-quality works. Highlights include Salomon Lilian's exhibition of the rarely displayed "Portrait of a 50 Year Old Man" by Frans Hals, a masterpiece that hasn't been seen publicly in 112 years. ArtAncient presents a selection of European Stone Age axes, shedding light on the earliest periods of human history.

Exploring New Avenues: Focus on Emerging Galleries

The 2023 edition of Frieze London will also be introducing the "Focus" section, dedicated to galleries in operation for 12 years or less. Partnering with Stone Island, Focus provides bursaries to young galleries, supporting their participation in the fair. With 34 galleries spanning 18 countries, this section is advised by industry experts and offers an exciting glimpse into the future of contemporary art.

With over 130 galleries participating, visitors can experience the evolution of art from the paleolithic era to the 20th century. Notable presentations include ArtAncient's selection of European Stone Age axes and Galleria Continua's exhibition of Ai Weiwei's iconic works.

New for 2023, the "Studio" section highlights the creative spaces of artists. Curated by Sheena Wagstaff, it offers insight into the inspirations and environments that shape artistic expression. Among the featured artists are Lucia Laguna, Maggi Hambling, and Arlene Shechet, offering a glimpse into their unique worlds of creation.

A new section called "Modern Women" will shine a spotlight on solo presentations by women artists. This tribute, curated by Camille Morineau, explores the work of artists such as Faith Ringgold, Tarsila do Amaral, Kangja Jung, and Vera Molnár, demonstrating their significant contributions to the art world.
