Discover a sophisticated perspective on art history at Frieze Masters 2026, where millennia of creative achievement are presented through a modern lens.

Frieze Masters offers a unique environment for the appreciation of historical art, spanning six millennia of human creativity in each year’s edition. Dedicated to art made before the year 2000, it ranges from ancient antiquities and Old Master paintings to significant 20th-century works. Held in Regent’s Park, the fairs run concurrently with Frieze London each October, facilitating a vital dialogue between the past and present. This specialised showcase provides collectors with an elegant setting to explore the enduring influence of classical and historical masterpieces.

About This Experience

Frieze Masters brings together a global selection of galleries specialising in secondary-market works and historical artefacts. Major global museums also attend the fair to scout and acquire works. The fair attracts over 90,000 international visitors each year from around the world. The fair is distinguished by its scholarly approach, featuring carefully researched presentations and curated sections such as Spotlight and Studio that shape how each piece is put on display, from rare manuscripts to iconic sculptures; this can also include historic surveys by a gallery or company, including Philip Mould & Company’s presentation of British women artists across four centuries as a curated group of works.

That survey moved from 17th-century pioneers Joan Carlile and Mary Beale to 18th-century artists Maria Spilsbury and Adriana Verelst, then to 19th-century names such as Margaret Carpenter and Sarah Biffin, before reaching Modernism with key figures including Vanessa Bell and Jessica Dismorr.

Last year’s Frieze Masters (2025) extended this intellectual programme through talks curated by Arturo Galansino, with the theme “Woven Histories” exploring art and history through conversations that connected artists, scholars, and culture. These sessions challenge traditional views of historical narratives, discuss the relationship between fashion and art, and include industry celebrity participants. This past year's event also included stand presentations that put a clear lead on individual artists, including Glenn Brown’s solo display framed around visual appropriation in art. The fair also showcased British artists painted in India, including John Dempsey’s rare 1840 work depicting Asian men and showing how artists could use cross-cultural subjects within British art.

This experience is ideally suited for those wishing to pair a deep interest in art history with a wider luxury itinerary, exploring London’s historic landmarks and prestigious private collections.
