About This Experience
The Baku City Circuit hosts the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, serving as a distinct street track designed by Hermann Tilke that loops through the capital city of Baku and hosted its first race in 2016. The track’s architecture presents an extreme engineering paradox, forcing teams to balance the narrow, slow, and technical sections running along the historic 12th-century walls of the Old City (Icherisheher), a UNESCO World Heritage site, with Baku situated on the Caspian Sea. The Maiden Tower, a 12th-century landmark, also forms part of the circuit’s visual setting. This straight allows cars to reach terminal velocities exceeding 360 kilometres per hour, resulting in heavy slip-streaming battles and highly unpredictable racing outcomes on the modern motorsport calendar. For visitors, it is also convenient to explore Baku’s culture beyond the race, including the Heydar Aliyev Center designed by Zaha Hadid and spectacular views from the Baku Ferris Wheel.
