About This Experience
The Laver Cup is a three-day battle featuring matches played over three days in five sessions, with both singles and doubles played across the weekend, culminating in a dramatic final stretch as Saturday builds the pressure and Sunday brings the biggest swings, with a clear tournament schedule that makes each session matter. Under its back-weighted format across 12 matches, each Friday match win is worth one point, and the first team to 13 points claims the title.
The event does not award ATP ranking points, so participants compete for prize money and team pride. If the sides are tied at 12 points, a decider is played as a regular set with ad scoring and a tiebreak if needed. Matches use best-of-three sets, with a 10-point tiebreak in place of a third set. The field is chosen through a mix of automatic qualifiers, not simply the highest ranked players, and captain’s picks. Team captains and captains oversee player selection, match preparation, and lead the sides during play, and every player must appear in at least one singles match.
