About This Experience
First held in 1951, the NBA All-Stars game has grown into one of basketball’s signature events. Attracting icons from the worlds of sport, music, and film, all star weekend runs from Feb. 19-21, 2027, with the game on Sunday night, Feb. 21, taking place in Los Angeles, California, at Intuit Dome, the home of the LA Clippers. The seven reserves from each conference are selected by NBA head coaches, who are not allowed to vote for their own players. If a selected player is unable to play due to an injury, the NBA Commissioner selects a replacement and can add players as needed to satisfy roster requirements.
Its stature is reinforced by moments such as Magic Johnson’s 1992 return to win All-Star MVP after his HIV diagnosis and the 2003 match-up that marked Michael Jordan’s final game, with Jordan having won the award twice.
Modern editions have delivered their own defining highlights, from Allen Iverson leading a thrilling 2001 comeback victory to Kobe Bryant winning the 2002 All-Star MVP despite being booed by his hometown crowd, before Anthony Davis scored 52 points to claim 2017 MVP and LeBron James captained a team to victory in 2018.
All-Star history also includes record-breaking scoring feats, Vince Carter’s unforgettable 2000 Dunk Contest, and an all-time series led by the Eastern Conference with 38 wins, while the current showcase format uses a round-robin tournament featuring two U.S. teams and one world-based international team.
