About This Experience
The Concours is an international spectacle where expert judges evaluate pre-war and post-war masterpieces on historical accuracy, technical merit, elegance, and authenticity, and on Concours Sunday spectators can see many cars before the formal show presentation begins. It is not merely a car show, but a highly competitive contest of preservation and restoration, with a strict selection process that invites only about 200 historically accurate cars from roughly 1,000 applications. The Awards Ceremony concludes the event with the Best of Show presentation, and that top award can significantly elevate a vehicle’s historic and monetary value. The annual class structure also features distinct categories for classic cars and historic coachbuilt icons, including examples such as Chapron Coachwork and Lamborghini Miura.
This rarefied event, held on the 18th fairway of Pebble Beach Golf Links, gathers the world’s most prized collector vehicles. It began in 1950 as part of the Pebble Beach Road Race, when the first exhibition featured only 30 cars on a practice driving range, and moved in 1952 to the 18th green overlooking Carmel Bay. The week also includes the Pebble Beach Tour d'Elegance, an open-road driving parade along Highway 1 to Big Sur, and completing it gives eligible cars a scoring advantage at the Concours.
This experience is perfectly suited for those wishing to explore Monterey County, with time in Carmel and Carmel-by-the-Sea, alongside scenic drives between the concours grounds and the peninsula’s most celebrated coastal settings.
