About The Awards
The Primetime Emmy Awards are administered annually by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences to recognise exceptional achievements in American primetime television programming across competitive categories and creative disciplines. The broader Emmy Awards franchise is presented annually by ATAS and NATAS, so it extends beyond the Primetime ceremony alone.
First presented in 1949 at the Hollywood Athletic Club, the ceremony has expanded into a premier media broadcast honouring creative disciplines across acting, directing, writing, and technical production.
For the 2026 cycle, nomination voting runs from 11 June to 22 June, while final-round voting takes place from 17 August to 26 August. Voting is conducted by peer judging panels.
The Emmy umbrella also includes the Daytime Emmys for daytime television programs, the News & Documentary Emmys for excellence in news coverage, and the Children's & Family Emmys introduced in 2022 for kids and family content. The formal evening at the Peacock Theater in downtown Los Angeles draws leading figures from global entertainment and features the presentation of the iconic Emmy statuette - a winged woman holding an atom to symbolise the intersection of art and science.
