The ceremony recognises work across general fields and genre categories including pop, R&B, and rock. It celebrates solo artists and group acts alike, whether tied to an album or a breakout single. Gendered categories were removed in 2021 to support broader inclusivity among nominees and winners.

Nominees and winners are selected by a voting academy of around 1,200 industry insiders. A win can have a major impact on an artist’s career and often drives a streaming uplift in the following days, while a standout live moment can reach fans well beyond the arena.
