Medina of Marrakech – Riad timila review
Despite the hustle and bustle of the Marrakech medina, luxury residence Riad Timila encapsulates its guests within its calm and welcoming atmosphere. The restored Moroccan house has six en-suite rooms, a rooftop terrace, a hammam, a media room, and a dining area.
As the riad lies on a pedestrian-only street, the riad’s butler, Ismail, arranged to meet us as we got out of our hired car. He led us through the winding streets of Marrakech and to straight to Riad Timila, where we were immediately given a quick tour and shown to our room.
We stayed in the master suite called Chambre Bronze. Our room featured a seating area, fireplace, and private bathroom and shower. A moucharabie window looks out over onto the pool and courtyard below. The super king-sized bed was extremely comfortable and had Egyptian cotton sheets and goose-down pillows. Like the rest of the hotel, our room was adorned with art and decor by local artisans. Downstairs, a wall dedicated to the lucky Hand of Fatima hides the inviting dark blue plunge pool.
On the roof of the riad lies a charming terrace with a 360-degree view of the city. Sun loungers, comfortable couches, and a long wooden dining table greet us as we make our way upstairs. The table is laid out with Moroccan mint tea, which Ismail calls the “whiskey of Morocco”, an assortment of salads, and grilled chicken. Everything is made in-house by the riad cook Henia and tastes absolutely fresh and delicious. Henia’s precise spice mix brings life to the aubergines, carrots, and cucumbers in the salads, and the chicken is juicy and tangy. An honesty bar is available on the rooftop for when you need to cool down from the Moroccan heat.
Riad Timila can be booked for up to twelve adults on either an individual room basis or as an entire property. The hotel manager, Brahim, is also on-hand to help book you in to any tours, restaurants, or activities that you desire. With an unbeatable location, fantastic home cooking and beautiful rooms, Riad Timila is a true gem and the perfect base from which travellers can explore the souks of Marrakech.
