The lobby upon arrival was bustling with hotel guests and though fairly busy for a Saturday afternoon we were warmly greeted and assisted by the hospitable doorman who led us to a swift and speedy check-in service. As check-in was quite quick it was a challenge to take in the lobby and its surroundings, however you immediately notice the art-deco elements and know that the hotel aesthetic focuses on this type of mood. Once our check-in process was complete, we were escorted to the lift area and given a brief guide as to where things were located as well as recommendations on what to see and do during our stay. We were accommodated in the Green Park Suite located on the second floor, directly overlooking Green Park, of course. In terms of space, the room is well proportioned and comfortable, offering a living area with a sofa and coffee table which faces the large flat screen tv, a plush king sized bed topped with Hypnos mattress and a rather ensuite immaculate shower and bathtub with toiletries courtesy of ESPA. There is of course a minibar with a good variety of nibbles and beverages as well as a Nespresso machine which was complimentary to the room including free top ups. The room does feel larger and more spacious as it is lined with mirrors and floor to ceiling windows making for a relaxing room to be in.
The Athenaeum

Located at 116 Piccadilly and just opposite the luscious Green Park, The Athenaeum is a five-star hotel and residence ideal for those seeking a staycation in the heart of vibrant London.
Overall the basis for choosing to stay at The Athenaeum in our opinion is location, five-star quality with a residential and contemporary vibe, comfort and convenience.
It is conveniently located and close to restaurants such as HIDE with The Ritz in close proximity. The loveliest part about its location is that it is directly parallel to Green Park with rooms overlooking it too. So although you are in the city, the option to have a morning run or a light evening stroll nearby is something to take advantage of when choosing to stay at The Athenaeum.

One could spend a few nights here without getting bored. The room is ideal for those wanting to escape working from home and perhaps wanting a change of scenery. We can see business travelers opting for The Athenaeum too due to its convenient location and work-friendly atmosphere. All one needs to do is bring their laptops and cables and you could easily get a bit of work done and recharge with a stroll along the heart of Mayfair. Or for those coming from abroad who are looking for a hotel with five star service but more importantly its location to central London, this would be ideal.
The unique part about this hotel is that it is also a residence and so it considers that family-friendly and work and life balance aspect. For example on the top floor is their residence lounge ‘The View’, giving you panoramic views of the city. It is a quiet place to be for those that just want a bit more relaxation or an area to get some work done. Exclusive to guests only, this area offers light snacks and beverages with different seating areas.
In terms of dining, we enjoyed a 3-course dinner at the hotel’s main restaurant led by Executive Chef Ian Howard. It is the perfect accompaniment to your stay as the food really is delicious. What stood out for us within our 3-course menu was the Goosnargh Chicken with a Mushroom Casserole. This was hearty, comforting and wonderfully delicious. We’re confident in the flavor and quality of The Athenaeums menu offering one a variety of options - whether you’re vegan, gluten-free or wanting something a bit more adventurous, they also offer a tasting menu.
To end our stay, we managed to get a morning booking for the spa and spent a few minutes relaxing in the bubbling hot tub which set the tone for the rest of the day. There is also a sauna and a steam room to complete that urban spa experience.
Overall the basis for choosing to stay at The Athenaeum in our opinion is location, five-star quality with a residential and contemporary vibe, comfort and convenience. The duration of our stay lasted for one night but we can see this being a place to return to if even for a quick staycation to reset and recharge.
