Inside Grey Wolfe; London’s Chicest Members-Only Wellness...

Few things are as inevitable as the mid-year slump, but finding effective ways to combat it proves more and more challenging. Enter Grey Wolfe; the private wellness club based in the West London village of Barnes. Nestled on a charming, leafy street, the space counts bustling cafes and upscale hair salons as neighbours. Stepping inside, the energy shift is palpable. Warm lighting and grey marble countertops are all part of the venues' sleek aesthetic, but there’s more than meets the eye here. Within its walls, the club houses cutting-edge equipment and treatments designed to revitalise and rejuvenate from the inside out and outside in. As I look around somewhat awestruck, Grey Wolfe’s General Manager, Carlos Urrutigoity tells me that the space is my house, and I should treat it as such. As part of the members-only appeal, the entire space belongs to the whoever has booked it, guaranteeing a level of privacy other clinics can't offer. Giddy with the realisation that the space is all mine for the next few hours, I take a breath and surrender to the experience.

Women Who Launch: Chanella Buck of ON Beaute

The brainchild of fashion and beauty veteran Chanella Buck, who has the likes of LVMH and Estee Lauder on her resumé, ON Beaute provides independent beauty reviews from the world’s top beauty editors, makeup artists, and dermatologists, and is free of sponsored content or ads. “Customers gravitate towards ON Beaute for its unparalleled commitment to authenticity and its unique approach to beauty reviews,” says Chanella. “Unlike other platforms, ON Beaute prioritises genuine, unfiltered feedback, ensuring every review is both reliable and fair, making it a trusted source for beauty enthusiasts seeking honest guidance.”  Chanella and her team saw an opportunity in the fact that 94% of consumers spend at least an hour researching online before making a beauty purchase. ON Beaute uses a mix of AI analysis and scores sent in by their team of experts to rate cult brands such as Charlotte Tilbury, La Mer, and Medik8. Aside from being a full-time founder, Chanella is passionate about keeping her professional and personal lives balanced. “As a mother to two daughters, my focus is to ensure I am nurturing a healthy self-image,” she says. “This includes encouraging my children, particularly my eldest, aged six, to embrace their natural beauty and understand that flaws are an intrinsic part of who we are. Makeup and skincare, in our discussions, are framed as tools to enhance one's beauty, not mask it. By doing so, I hope to instill a sense of confidence and self-acceptance, teaching them beauty is not just about appearance, but feeling comfortable in one's own skin.” In this edition of Women Who Launch, The Sybarite speaks with Chanella on what a typical day in her life looks like and her most recent beauty discovery.

The New Home Of Wellness Has Landed In Knightsbridge

When the Emory opened in Knightsbridge earlier this year, it was a welcome addition to the London hotel scene. As the newest venue of the Maybourne Group, who also look after Claridges, The Berkeley and The Connaught, it was in capable hands from inception to opening. Perhaps though, the property's biggest drawcard is the four level members club located underneath it. Here, hotel guests and members are invited to step into wellbeing haven, Surrenne. Conceptualised by Inge Theron, Maybourne's creative director and founder of Facegym, this impeccably designed space is set to revolutionise the wellness scene. “Surrenne is a new era of ultra-luxury social wellbeing," Theron said in a press release. "Our concept is founded on science backed evidence-based protocols co-created with the thought leaders of our generation. Where high tech meets modern ritual, we boost human performance across four floors of sumptuously designed, intentionally curated spaces, offering a unique wellness experience, fun fitness, efficacious products, and community. Whether you are coming for sit-ups or science we have it all perfectly packaged by award-winning designer Remi Tessier and myself. Together, we have redefined luxury wellness.”

Women Who Launch: Aila Morin

The makeup industry can feel like a glittery, pigmented minefield. For anyone wondering when it all got so complicated, the solution lies in Merit. The brand's pared-back approach to beauty has hit the refresh button on this highly saturated sector. Aila Morin was pivotal in its creation, beginning as Senior Vice President of Brand, Growth, and Innovation, before receiving a promotion to CMO in 2023. Morin's resume reads as one achievement after another. At age 23, she was running her own marketing team. In 2016, she began working at Mejuri as the first management level marketing hire. By the time she left the company, she has risen the ranks to Director of Marketing and GTM, launching the brand in over 30 countries. Her impressive career caught the attention of serial entrepreneur, Katherine Power, best known for co-founding of Who What Wear and Avaline). In 2019, Morin applied her talents to Power's vision — simplifying the wide world of makeup for the busy woman. In just two years years, this vision was realised in Merit. With two powerhouses at the helm, the brand's success was inevitable, but none of it has been down to luck. Every measured decision has stood Merit in good stead to becoming one of the biggest names in beauty. Below, read our fascinating conversation with Morin as she discusses the importance of failure, the power of storytelling and what's next for Merit.

Women Who Launch: Sarah Brown

Words such as 'clean' and 'sustainable' are frequently thrown around within the beauty sphere. Amongst the noise, it can be difficult to discern who is legitimate in their claims. Pai is the antidote to this confusion. Founded in 2007, the brand is not only backed by science and reviews, but by Brown's personal skincare struggles, too. Having developed a skin condition known as Chronic Urticaria in her twenties, Brown developed a keen interest in skincare ingredients. Instead of despairing over the lack of available products, she decided to create her own. Fast forward eighteen years, and Brown is the proud founder of a clean, vegan, cruelty-free & B Corp product line. Pai is gentle, while still being results-driven. It relies on tried-and-true formulas, while still being innovative. Unsurprisingly, all kinds of skincare enthusiasts now consider this brand a staple in their routine.

The Daily Habit That Can Drastically Improve Your Sleep

It may come as a surprise, but the key to unlocking those elusive eight hours of blissful slumber could be as simple as lacing up your trainers and breaking a sweat. Yes, you heard it right. Exercise isn't just about fitting into your favourite jeans or keeping those doctor's orders at bay—it's also a powerful tool for enhancing your sleep quality and overall well-being. But before you dismiss it as just another item on your never-ending to-do list, consider this: the benefits of exercise extend far beyond the confines of the gym or the running track.

Women Who Launch: Raquel Bouris

The perfume world is a competitive one, meaning that carving out a niche is necessary in order to succeed. Nobody knows this better than Raquel Bouris, a Sydney-based entrepreneur who started her highly perfume business, WHO IS ELIJAH, from her garage in 2018. Bouris had the idea for the brand just one year prior, having met a woman wearing an unforgettable scent at Coachella in 2017. In an attempt to recreate the perfume, Bouris created something else entirely, which she liked far better. This would go on to be the brand's flagship, gender neutral scent known as His/Her. This decision to keep scents unisex has become a key part of the WHO IS ELIJAH ethos. Blending masculine and feminine notes has resulted in boundary-pushing fragrances which are equal parts unique and universally appealing. On top of this, scents is cruelty-free and vegan, each hand-filled and produced in small batches to minimise wastage.
