Gourmand Gem
There’s a new gourmand scent on the block! Italian luxury fragrance house Gritti has launched a moreish scent evocative of juicy summer fruits. Think strawberry, melon, and blackcurrant blossom combined with comforting notes of vanilla and coconut. Perfect for spritzing in the lead-up to spring.
From 3-10 February, Art After Dark will once again make a splash in central London. The programme features a landmark public art installation by Lakwena Maciver, late-night gallery openings, special performances across the West End, and an after-hours DJ set at the National Gallery. The cherry on top? The week-long event is totally free!
Mestizo’s Chelsea outpost is gearing up for an immersive Live Art Project dubbed Frida Kahlo: Women Experiences. The experience, which will run from 22 January until 10 April, is officially supported by UN Women and invites guests to take a deep dive into Kahlo’s inner world. Those looking to extend the evening can opt in for a five-course tasting menu paired with mezcal and tequila.
London’s first handroll bar, Temaki, is set to throw open its doors this month in the heart of Mayfair. The eatery, which originally launched in Brixton back in 2021, will serve elevated classic Japanese dishes including handrolls, crispy rice topped with fish, A4 wagyu sliders, sandos, and toro.
In honour of Ramadan Lebanese eatery Ta’mini Lebanese Bakery has prepared a special Iftar set menu which will be available daily from sunset until 8pm. Priced at £25, guests can expect to feast on dishes such as dates and Jallab, lentil soup with freshly baked pita, Fatoush salad, and a choice of Ta’mini’s signature manakish or wrap.
On 28 February, Ham Yard Hotel will be hosting a special frame making and mounting workshop with curator and collector, Domenica Marland. Participants will craft their own bespoke bobbin frame and fabric mount to display photos, artwork, or anything in between. During the workshop, Domenica will be on hand to share framing techniques as well as some insights into her favourite art styles. Tickets cost £165 per person which includes all materials, morning coffee and lunch in Ham Yard Restaurant.
London bar Drake & Morgan’s has put together a series of cocktail-making masterclasses, just in time for Valentine’s and Galentine’s Day. Designed for couples and friends alike, these classes will take place across 15 London venues including the likes of The Refinery Bankside and The Parlour in Canary Wharf. Wannabe mixologists can choose from three packages, one of which includes the concoction of two cocktails and a three-course meal.
A one-night-only Thai x Korean collaboration is coming to The Royal Exchange this February. On 28 February, The Jang Supper Club will see Jang’s Executive Chef Dana Choi partner with Jane Alty on a four-course tasting menu jam-packed with bold flavours, spice and fermented elements. Standout dishes include grilled squid and king prawn salad, fried sea bass with gochujang four-flavour sauce, and Som Chun dessert.
Mam Sham duo Maria Georgiou and Rhiannon Butler are set to host their next supper club at Lock Warehouse on 27 February. Three standout courses (from the likes of Manteca’s Chris Leach and Melissa Thompson) will be paired alongside three rib-tickling comedy acts from Kae Kurd, Jin Hao Li and Britney. The evening will culminate with an energising ‘After Midnight’ show from Goya Gumbani. All profits from the event will be donated to charity, Praxis.
Latin American restaurant Tigermilk has launched its new brunch offering in the form of a special weekend set menu priced at £22, which includes one savoury dish, one sweet dish and one hot drink. Guests can elevate the experience with a mimosa or margarita for an additional £5. Expect pillowy pancakes served with seasonal fruit and maple syrup, huevos rancheros, and slow-cooked pulled pork with guacamole and salsa roja served in a potato bun.
Cantonese restaurant, Canton Blue, is offering a six-course menu, as well as an array of specials, to celebrate the Lunar New Year. Cocooned within the ritzy Peninsula London, the restaurant itself is a real feast for the eyes. Think opulent jewel tones, walls covered with colourful crockery, and a stunning zodiac ceiling centrepiece adorned with twinkling lights. Elsewhere, keep your eyes peeled for Lin Fanglu’s impressive She’s Bestowed Love II installation which has been crafted from hand-dyed red textiles and takes pride of place near the entrance.
On the food front, the menu is teeming with elevated, flavour-packed dishes. Standout plates include the prawn dumplings with white fungus, the ‘goldfish’ dumplings with pumpkin seafood sauce (a whimsical bite brushed with shimmering powder that looks almost too cute to eat), the barbecued iberico pork and the wok-fried choi sum laced with garlic. For a hint of sweetness, round off the meal with the sago cream dessert featuring mango puree and refreshing pomelo and grapefruit.
Beauty brand Rhode has added to their roster of skincare products with a new sculpting cream face mask dubbed Caffeine Reset. Designed to plump and lift the face, the sculpting mask gets to work in 10-15 minutes, helping to refresh, de-puff and energise the skin throughout the day. One to add to the wish list!
Yearning for a dose of carnival spirit? SUSHISAMA is bringing back its Carnaval Weekender from 20 - 22 February across its outposts in Covent Garden and Heron Tower. In honour of Brazil’s world-famous festival, the three-day programme promises samba dancers, batucada drummers, Brazilian DJs, and a limited edition five-course Taste of Carnaval menu.
To mark Valentine’s Day this year, Ixchel on King’s Road is offering a four-course dinner menu with a romantic twist. Renowned for serving up dishes rooted in traditional Mexican cuisine, Chef Ximena Gayosso Gonzalez has whipped up a gastronomic feast featuring fresh scallops and prawns served in a strawberry aguachile, pink mole served with grilled chicken, and Mexican chocolate tamales, steamed in corn husks and served with roasted corn ice cream.
