About This Canadian Grand Prix Experience
The Canadian Grand Prix is a formula one race in Canada contested at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve on Notre Dame Island, a parkway track situated in the middle of the Saint Lawrence River. Originally known as the Île Notre-Dame Circuit, the venue was renamed in honour of the legendary Canadian driver following his passing, and the island itself is a man made island that became the historic site of the race.
The circuit is renowned for its low-drag setup requirements, heavy braking zones, and the need for precise strategy informed by practice-session data, as well as the iconic final corner wall colloquially known as the "Wall of Champions," a name tied to crashes in the final chicane, including one involving the reigning champion, during the 1999 race. Due to a strategic shift to align the global racing calendar more sustainably, the event operates on a permanent late-May date, moving forward from its historic mid-June calendar placement later in the season.
