Couture AW16: Finding love in hopeless places

It is not unusual to see an elaborate set for Chanel catwalk shows, and this season was no different. For AW16, Chanel’s couture seamstresses were included on the set, who Karl Lagerfeld then took his end of show bow arm-in-arm with, many still wearing their sewing kits. The couture itself, took place in an array of classic Chanel tweed, over black suede boots and gloves, creating a canvas on which the cropped wide-leg pantsuits and flatly squared shoulders took pride place. Viktor & Rolf repurposed garments and various textiles from past archives, finding new and inventive ways to painstakingly stitch together swathes of multi-coloured tulle with shirt fabrics and denim. Ultimately resulting in a wearable art collection, much to the designers’ technical skill credit. Elie Saab stormed the catwalk with a ‘Love in New York’ concept, showcasing intricate embroidery of lit skyscraper windows and the discernible Chrysler building, with velveteen birds and crystal heart motifs across full-length gowns.

Event of the week for Sybarites: BRIT Awards 2016

Best: Adele dedicates her award to Kesha in her battle against SONYAdele became the queen of the evening after picking up four awards - and joining the number of stars raising their voices to back Kesha. When receiving the first award, Best British Female Solo Artist, she first thanked her team for letting her embrace the fact that she is a woman then said 'I would like to take this moment to publicly support Kesha'. The speech was based on the fact that the New York Supreme Court denied Kesha to exit her contract with the record label, despite the allegations that she has been sexually assaulted by one of its producers. Worst (?): Justin Bieber forgets his lyricsThe performance itself was many viewers’ favourite. Though, the most dedicated Beliebers noticed and became outraged over the fact that the star got the words to his number one single "Sorry" mixed up. According to us at The Sybarite, Justin Bieber has nothing to be sorry about.

Event of the Week for Sybarites: Grammy Awards 2016

Best: Taylor Swift putting Yeezy back in his placeCountry singer turned pop princess Taylor Swift had something to say when she picked up her award for Best Album, and it was very obviously directed at one man in particular, Mr Kayne West. In response to a rather arrogant lyric claiming he made Taylor ‘famous’, Taylor chose the moment of receiving her Grammy to correct any of those who were ill-informed by her fellow musician. Hell hath no fury and all that… Worst: Sir Paul McCartney“How VIP do we gotta get?” was the exact response from music legend and Beatles superstar Sir Paul McCartney. It appeared that at an after-party hosted by rapper Tyga, Sir Paul and his party were unduly turned away from the door, as the bouncers weren’t sure as to who they were. The American rapper seemed unfazed by the occurrence, claiming that it is was in fact all a ‘mix-up’ from the Beatles’ lead singer. One thing is for sure, if Sir Paul can’t gain access to a high-profile Grammy afterparty, if there any hope for the rest of us?

For Karl Lagerfield’s latest showcase for Couture Fashion Week in Paris, the glitteratti were out in force to ogle at his latest haute couture fashion line. It wasn’t just the FROW that was suitably starry. Infact, Paris' Grand Palais was transformed into an elegant and eco-friendly setting, consisting of a wooden house surrounded by a minimalist garden of lotus-filled ponds and a spread of lush green grass, reflecting the graphic illustration of his eco-inspiration vision (even the designs used wood shavings within the fabric). Familiar faces such as supermodels Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid led the catwalk path, adorned in stunning designs, one off pieces and eye-catching looks. Cara Delevingne was spotted sitting front row with her dog Leo.
