Switzerland’s romantic getaway

rheinschwimmen-in-basel-swimming-in-the-rhine-in-basel-1.jpg

If you were thinking of treating your valentine to a romantic getaway, Switzerland would rank high on the list of places to consider.

You might be thinking of cosy chalets with snow-capped mountains in the backdrop. However, I would recommend the hidden gem that is Basel instead. It is far away from the Swiss Alps, but in fact, it is the third-most populous city in Switzerland. With its proximity to France and Germany, it's always been more multicultural than other parts of the country. It is a city that effortlessly intertwines history...

Review of The Luxury Insider Reviews Hotel nhow - Londons boldest...

This isn’t the sort of hotel I would normally check into, but its interiors fascinated me and so, I was intrigued about how much luxury this uber-cool hotel could provide.  Just 10 minutes from Angel and Old Street stations, the nhow is incredibly convenient for anyone exploring this side of the city. The outside is quite unremarkable, but once you walk through the doors you're greeted by a bold and playful British theme which looks like it could have been created by Lewis Carroll and Banksy - think graffiti, a 30ft rocket ship Big Ben and House of Hackney seating that wouldn't look out of place at the Mad Hatter's tea party. If nothing else, it oozes fun and fits with it’s east London location.

This award-winning property occupies a handsome Georgian Townhouse whose frontage is accentuated with a classic town car that warmly welcome guests inside. The Eastbury was originally designed as a 17th-century Georgian gentleman’s residence. The house’s genteel history is certainly felt in the noble and timeless décor of the various rooms, lounges and the wonderful two AA Rosette restaurant (but more on that later).

Review of The Athenaeum

Overall the basis for choosing to stay at The Athenaeum in our opinion is location, five-star quality with a residential and contemporary vibe, comfort and convenience. It is conveniently located and close to restaurants such as HIDE with The Ritz in close proximity. The loveliest part about its location is that it is directly parallel to Green Park with rooms overlooking it too. So although you are in the city, the option to have a morning run or a light evening stroll nearby is something to take advantage of when choosing to stay at The Athenaeum.

Featuring James Bond’s favourite spots; and now they can be yours too

Since creating the character in 1953, Ian Fleming has taken us round the world through an array of adventures, car chases, romances and incredible locations. For the last 15 years Daniel Craig has been the embodiment of the British secret service agent and although he wasn’t the first, nor the last, his departure is the perfect time to reflect on a film franchise - and more importantly, filming locations - that have had audiences captivated since 1962. Want to live like James Bond? Let us show you exactly where to go.

Review of Los Montes de Galicia: A Piece of Galician Food Heaven In...

Combining outstanding Atlantic Spanish food and nouvelle cuisine flavours, this lovely restaurant located at Barrio de Salamanca, will transport you to the North of Spain without moving from the capital. An exciting gastronomic journey you shouldn't miss if you find yourself wandering through the city. A delight for all senses. The Sybarite recently took off to Madrid (for work, obviously!). We had the pleasure of visiting Los Montes de Galicia, and who knew we’d enjoy this exquisite restaurant as much as we did. As soon as you step into this elegant place, you automatically understand why everybody’s talking about it: the stylish modern decor, the abundance of hanging vegetation and the decorative ornaments manage to create the perfect atmosphere for a great fine-dining experience either with your friends, family or your loved one. Los Montes de Galicia is divided into two different spaces: the restaurant and the cocktail area, all separated from each other but very much connected. Blue vivid tones, wooden decorative elements, modern, bright… pictures don’t do justice to how pretty this place is.

Featuring The Dylan Amsterdam: A hidden boutique hotel

Tell our readers a bit about The Dylan, it has a really interesting history.  The Dylan is located in the Nine Streets area of Amsterdam, close to the Anne Frank House, right on the Keizersgracht. The building dates back partially to the 17th Century, when the canal was first excavated and it was actually the location of the first theatre in Amsterdam. And we still have the original stone gate from that time.  The famous painter Rembrandt was a production assistant at the theatre back then. So we have some sketches that he made while he was working here. A lot of the building was lost in a fire in the 1800s. Upon rebuilding, it was turned into a Catholic institution for the elderly and poor. We took over in the 90s as the first real boutique hotel in continental Europe.  We opened initially as Blake's, a sister property to the famous Blake's in London, known for its very iconic interior designer. In the early 2000s, the hotel became the The Dylan Amsterdam that we know and love today.

Besides its tailor made treatments, it’s the environment at which the spa has been built upon. Stepping into this wellness sanctuary, you get an immediate sense of calm and an immediate ability to set your mind at a lower pace. As you enter the circular shaped reception area, it’s that wide open space and nude tones that envelope you into another place, another time. After all that scorching island sun and the plentiful of culinary delights that whet your appetite at JOALI, it’s bliss to have ESPA as a cool and calm oasis to let go in and get lost in.

Banyan Tree’s Renyung Ho on sustainability in the resort...

We're living in a world where every industry has a part to play and a responsibility to uphold when it comes to preserving our environment as well as our social impact, the hotel industry being one of the largest players on this subject matter. Banyan Tree is known to spearhead the sustainability movement and support humanitarian initiatives quite strongly. Could you tell us a bit more about how Banyan Tree embodies these values, the steps taken to achieve this and what the future holds for Banyan Tree and even for yourself. What would you like to see happen in the next few years? Banyan Tree’s story is one of transformation, an idea that defines not only the journey of Banyan Tree as a company from our beginnings 26 years ago, but also our own values and beliefs. To put it simply, we believe that travel can be transformative – for the environment, and for people. This is reflected in our corporate ethos of “Embracing the Environment, Empowering People”. We apply this in the way we blend nature into the design of our properties, and how our experiences and programmes enable guests to connect with themselves, their loved ones, and the wider community. Besides environmental impact, we also design, build and hire with consideration of our impact on local communities.
