Five of the World's Best Literary Destinations
23rd March 2026
'Getting lost in the pages of a book’ is an expression that resonates with many: books allow us to enter other worlds and other experiences - and the memories often linger far beyond the final chapter. So it’s unsurprising that the popularity of literary tourism has surged in recent years. Readers are no longer content to simply escape into a book: they want to step into the world of the author, or of the protagonists. Screen adaptations have, of course, been instrumental in this shift. Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings have both turned real destinations into places that fans seek out in an effort to immerse themselves into those fictional worlds. Social media has also played a part, with visual platforms such as TikTok and Instagram bringing literary landmarks, and aesthetically pleasing book shops and libraries into the palms of our hands - and inciting a yen to see them for ourselves. A desire for slower, more immersive travel is also a factor. Rather than ticking off a list of sights and landmarks, travellers now prefer to linger and get a genuine sense of place, or a feeling of connection with the places they visit. Some destinations heighten the experience for visitors - Dublin is just one example. They tap into their literary histories and arrange programmes of festivals, exhibitions and talks, giving travellers a focal point around which they can build the rest of their trip. So, if your muse has been awakened, here are some ideas to further inspire you...

Women Who Launch: Molly Aldridge of The JJ Club
21st March 2025
Molly says being an entrepreneur was always in the cards for her, starting from when she and her sister would peddle everything from drawings to painted pebbles to supportive family members. This evolved into starting her first communications business within the IPG Group in her late 20s and a second business within M&C Saatchi soon followed whilst she was in her 30s. “I so enjoyed the journey of building out the right teams around the world, growing out an enviable client list, and creating meaningful campaigns that made a mark,” she shares, saying that she has always valued “will over skill” when it comes to making hiring decisions. After starting a family, it became evident to Molly that there was a gap in the market, and a new business idea came to fruition: “I felt there weren’t enough local spaces and places that could really help support the modern juggle of work and family life. I was a member of so many different clubs catering for all my family’s needs and craved a space on my local doorstep that offered spaces and activities for the whole family to work, rest, and play—both independently and together as a family unit.” Molly founded The JJ Club in late 2020 and describes it as being ‘her most personal venture yet’, with the pandemic highlighting a need for more opportunities to build connections. In this Women Who Launch interview, Molly will discuss how she's built The JJ Club's community through strategic brand partnerships, a curated events calendar, exclusive luxury perks, and a coveted little black book of contacts.

Women who launch – Valentina de Santis of Grand Hotel...
14th March 2022
I’m here to tell you that that would be a mistake. Italy has been one of my most frequently visited countries largely because of its regional diversity. I love how a short drive could mean a complete change in scenery, dialects, and flavours. Late last year, I was fortunate to spend a long weekend in the region of Lombardia where panoramic views of the Alps greeted me every morning. It is in this picturesque location that the Grand Hotel Tremezzo, a Preferred Hotels & Resorts member, welcomes guests every season. Lying on the western shores of Lake Como, Grand Hotel Tremezzo is a family-owned five-star luxury hotel with Valentina de Santis as its current CEO. de Santis is a multi-awarded hotelier who has, not only hospitality expertise running in her veins, but a keen eye for design as well. She has taken all the elements of the art nouveau hotel and created a line of products sold in a newly-launched e-boutique that allow guests to take the experience home with them.
Review of The Sybarite Reviews - Sublime Comporta
9th March 2022
Sublime Comporta's tranquil 17-hectare estate with rice fields, sand dunes and over 60 km stretch of beach to match is what makes this haven breath-taking for holiday goers. Sublime’s natural habitat takes centre stage and with its sprawling villas along the estate, the flourishing pine trees and cork trees of which it belongs, provide ample views for much needed relinquishment. Our lodging over the two nights was in one of their Villa Room Master’s located within one of their Cabana Villas. Sublime’s concept is that each room is separate but shares a common entrance with shared access to the common spaces. Our room fit all four of us snuggly with a cot provided at the foot of our bed and a children’s bed across our king sized bed. The most attractive part about the room was certainly the views of the undulating trees, for a second we thought we were on a safari holiday, wondering when giraffes or whatever animal you’d expect on a safari would appear.

Featuring The Wonder Women brunch
9th March 2020
From the recent uncovering of abuse in Hollywood to the discussion of the gender pay gap, women are still fighting for support and an equal voice. Much like the suffragette movement, this is a time of empowerment and a movement for change. Located in the heart of the City, The Sybarite joined other fabulous industry women in the Garden Room at the private members, Devonshire Club, for the Wonder Women Brunch. Hosted by Tamara Gillan CEO of Cherry London, together with Stylist Editor-in-Chief Lisa Smosarski, an impressive panel of women, each successful in the respective fields, assembled to demonstrate how conversation can be transformed to purposeful action. Arriving to a sea of 100 successful and very glamorous women, I must say, I was a ball of excitement and a little intimidated all at the same time. However, with a glass of champagne in hand and inspirational women all around, the panel were greeted by standing room only.
St Lucia gets serious about food
28th March 2017
That, however, is beginning to change with St Lucia emerging as a surprising destination with a lot to offer food lovers, aside from its lush tropical scenery. A new organisation is driving the revolution - The Caribbean Culinary Council has launched new initiatives with the aim of developing and celebrating the region’s culinary expertise. Head of the organisation Karolin Troubetzkoy comments: “Visitors to the Caribbean are looking for unique culinary experiences and locally sourced products. Increasingly, our culinary offerings are driving destination traffic alongside established factors such as accommodation and scenery. Visitors can now visit a cocoa plantation offering a Tree -To-Bar experience in St Lucia. Weekly street parties and ‘Jump Ups’ showcase the local cuisine, and the capital of Castries has one of the most colourful and vibrant food markets in the Caribbean.
Health is the Ultimate Luxury: Meet Clajah Bricce
24th March 2016
Growing up in London surrounded by the buzz of a hard-working city that never sleeps, Clajah found herself particularly inspired by her aunt, whose demanding schedule made keeping healthy an absolute must. As a singer working with the likes of Eric Clapton and Stevie Wonder, Clajah’s aunt was constantly on the go, and she relied heavily on her fitness to be able to do her job. Even at such a young age, Clajah says she “wanted to be just like [her]” and really understood how important working out and eating well was for peace of mind, as well as body. Unsurprisingly, Clajah went on to study Biology, Nutrition and Exercise Physiology at university, further equipping herself with the necessary knowledge to make her business idea a very healthy reality. She loved the variety and complexity of the clients she took on “working with children and families, celebrities, sports figures and high powered executives”, all with a range of different health objectives. She now has more than 20 years of experience in the international health sector.
